“From Ciputat to Indonesia”: IKALUIN Book Highlights Inspiring Alumni Journeys of UIN Jakarta
Ciputat, UIN News Online — The book “Dari Ciputat untuk Indonesia: Jejak Alumni UIN Jakarta dalam Buku Inspiratif IKALUIN” presents a collection of inspiring stories from prominent alumni of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta who have made significant contributions across various fields in Indonesia. The work was published by the UIN Jakarta Alumni Association (IKALUIN) as a reflection of the university’s intellectual and social legacy.
The publication traces the long academic and historical journey of UIN Jakarta, which originated from the establishment of the Akademi Dinas Ilmu Agama (ADIA) in 1957, and has since developed into one of Indonesia’s leading Islamic higher education institutions with a vast network of influential graduates.
The book features 18 selected alumni recipients of the IKALUIN Award, showcasing diverse life trajectories—from Islamic intellectuals and public figures to activists, academics, cultural practitioners, and national leaders. Each story is presented as a narrative of intellectual struggle, personal transformation, and meaningful societal contribution.
Among the highlighted figures are well-known names such as Nurcholish Madjid, Azyumardi Azra, Abdul Moqsith Ghazali, Syafiq Hasyim, Badriyah Fayumi, Neng Dara Afifah, and several other influential alumni whose works have shaped discourse in Islam, politics, law, activism, and culture in Indonesia.
Rather than serving only as a biographical compilation, the book positions itself as a broader reflection on how the Ciputat academic ecosystem has shaped generations of thinkers and public contributors. It emphasizes that success is not solely the result of formal academic pathways, but also the product of intellectual environment, social interaction, and personal perseverance.
Through in-depth research and interviews, the book presents a human-centered narrative style that captures both the struggles and achievements of UIN Jakarta alumni, making the reading experience both reflective and inspirational.
The publication also underscores IKALUIN’s role as a platform that connects alumni across generations, strengthens institutional identity, and highlights the broader impact of UIN Jakarta graduates on Indonesian society.
Ultimately, “Dari Ciputat untuk Indonesia” is positioned not only as a documentation of alumni achievements, but also as a testament to UIN Jakarta’s enduring contribution in shaping intellectual, religious, and socially engaged figures for the nation.
