Ciputat, UIN News Online – The Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UIN Jakarta was appointed as one of the testing laboratories on SARS CoV-2 Virus Genome Surveillance along with 12 other national higher education institutions. This is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding of the Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (Menristek / Head of National Agency for Research and Innovation) and the Minister of Health (Menkes) of the Republic of Indonesia regarding SARS CoV-2 Virus Genome Surveillance on Friday (01/08/2021).

This was said by the Dean of FK UIN Jakarta Hari Hendarto to UIN News Online on Tuesday (01/12/2021). According to Hari, FK UIN Jakarta has a big responsibility as one of the centers of study and research to determine molecular epidemiology, characteristics, health impacts, and case tracking for management, prevention and control of Covid-19, as well as for coordination at the national and global levels.

Hari also said that the results of the SARS CoV-2 Genome Surveillance would allow Indonesia to make predictions, and take quick and precise prevention, handling, and reporting, which is very much needed in efforts to control the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Currently, the FK UIN Jakarta Laboratory has succeeded in finding five new mutations of the SARS Cov-2 virus strain which is considered as the most dangerous, especially from several samples in the Banten region,” he said.

Separately, the Director General of Islamic Education, Muhammad Ali Ramdhani, appreciated UIN Jakarta which contributed significantly to the Covid-19 virus outbreak by continuing to analyze various mutations of this virus.

“This is a concrete step that the Islamic Religious College is not only contributing to Islamic issues, but also contributing to problems in the medical and health sectors. We are very proud of this,” said Ali.

The same appreciation was also conveyed by the Director of Islamic Religious Higher Education, Suyitno. According to Suyitno, this shows that the quality of research and laboratories at UIN Jakarta is the same, or even better, compared to other medical faculty laboratories in Indonesia.

“We will continue to provide full support, because this is a concrete step towards PTKI's contribution to the fight against Covid which has claimed many victims,” he said

Meanwhile, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis said that the appointment of the FK UIN Jakarta laboratory has two meanings;  first is to show the government's trust in medical faculty laboratories in Islamic religious colleges. Another meaning is the high expectations of the government and the public for the academic work of UIN Jakarta in dealing with various problems in people's lives.

“Hopefully we can continue to provide good academic-medical work in order to accelerate the resolution of the Covid 19 pandemic problem in our beloved country,” said Rector Amany. (usa/zm)
