FISIP UIN Jakarta Holds ICSPS 2018
FISIP, UIN News Online – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta on September 25-26 2018 held an International Conference on Social and Political Sciences (ICSPS) entitled "Towards National Integration and Global Peace" at the FISIP Auditorium, the 2nd campus of UIN Jakarta and invited several speakers, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marcus Mietzner (The Australian National University), Prof. Dr. Tracey McIntosh (The University of Auckland, New Zealand), Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bin Ali (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marcus Mietzner gave a presentation on Ultranationalists, Islamists and Technocrats: Rival Populism and Democratic Crisis in Indonesia. "Indonesia is faced with populist competition, there are 3 different populisms that compete to seize power," Marcus said. Then he also mentioned 3 Indonesian figures who currently have major influences like Joko Widodo, Prabowo Subianto and Habib Rizieq Shihab.
Next Prof. Dr. Tracey McIntosh gave a presentation on Inequality and Social Justice: Inequality is theorized. "There are potential for millions of people around two million of their rights, and the ability to participate and contribute to society has diminished and this proves that equality has not been implemented properly," Tracey said. He also explained about structural violence, overcoming social justice and overcoming inequality.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bin Ali was the last speaker on the first day of the conference. He explained about Religious Conflict, Extremism and Violence: A Threat to Peace and Harmony,” said Mohamed. He also explained that Islamism is a belief that Islam must guide social and political and personal life.
On the second day of the conference, the event was moderated by Dr. Jamal Abdullah (Oxford University). The committee invited speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Din Syamsuddin (FISIP UIN Jakarta), Prof. Dr. Kamarulnizam Abdullah (North University of Malaysia).
Prof. Dr. Din Syamsuddin became the first speaker on the second day by presenting material about substantial peace and war, conflict resolution, and solutions that might be needed to resolve future conflicts. In his statement he said the solution to the conflict is to pay more attention to the environmental crisis conflict, the power of dialogue and cooperation is the key. After completing the presentation, open the Questions and Answers session. The majority of the questions are about United Nations reform.
Then Prof. Dr. Kamarulnizam Abdulah as the last speaker present the material on Distributive Justice and Global Peace. In his presentation, Kamarulnizam said that social justice focuses on equality and justice whose concepts and terms have given various diverse meanings about equality and equality.
In the last session, the moderator opened a question and answer session. Some audiences asked questions about oil disputes in the Middle East and their influence on Indonesia, alternative ways to resolve the crisis in the Middle East, and so on. (usa)
