First-Ever Grand Commencement: UIN Jakarta Graduates 1,995 Students at TMII

TMII, UIN Online News — Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta marked a historic milestone on Tuesday (2/12/2025) as the university held its first-ever Grand Ceremony, the 138th Open Senate Session, at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

The ceremony was officially opened by the Secretary of the University Senate, Prof. Masri Mansoer, M.Ag. The Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., was also present and delivered remarks highlighting the academic journey and character formation of the graduates.

Responding to the theme that success requires more than academic metrics, Dra. Badriyah Fayumi, Lc., M.A., an alumna of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and a Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2004–2009 period, emphasized that knowledge that is practiced with sincerity becomes the foundation of broader life achievements.

“Beneficial knowledge is not merely about grades or titles. It is a lifelong trace of goodness that links humans to God, advances civilization, and opens pathways to a blessed life. When knowledge is put into practice, it becomes beneficial to humanity,” she stated.

Representing the graduates, Muhammad Sanusi, the best graduate from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), described the commencement ceremony as the culmination of years of effort, perseverance, and prayer.

“This moment bears witness to the long road we have taken. Every step, every effort, and every prayer that brought us here finally pays off. Today, those small steps have become a trace of our journey,” he shared.

Quoting Ayyuhal Walad by Imam al-Ghazali, Sanusi reminded his peers that knowledge without practice is ignorance, while practice without knowledge is meaningless.

“This reminds us that intelligence and innovation are only half the journey. Without values, ethics, and spiritual awareness, technology is merely an empty space. When knowledge is united with goodness, the light of civilization emerges,” he explained.

The ceremony concluded with the conferral of diplomas to all graduates from their respective study programs, followed by the recitation of the graduate's oath and a collective rendition of the national song, marking a solemn and proud closing to the event.
