FIKES UIN Jakarta Enhances Campus Safety with Fire and Earthquake Mitigation Training
Jakarta, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta organized a disaster response training, held at the newly built FIKES Laboratory Building on Tuesday (7/10/2025). The two-day training program included classroom sessions on theory and technical understanding, as well as field simulations and the formation of the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) team, scheduled for Wednesday (8/10/2025).
The event was attended by Vice Rector for General Administration Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A.; Head of the FIKES Administration Division Drs. Henda Syukri, M.Si.; Head of the Bureau of Planning and Finance Drs. H. Teguh Sarwono, M.Si.; Head of the Bureau of General Administration and Personnel Dr. Nanang Fatchurochman, S.H., S.Pd., M.Pd.; Dean of FIKES Prof. Dr. apt. Zilhadia, M.Si.; representatives from the Yudha Brama Jaya Fire Department, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the UIN Jakarta Hospital; campus security officers; and members of the FIKES academic community along with UPT Ma’had Al-Jami’ah.
M. Adam from the Yudha Brama Jaya Fire Department emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and disaster-resilient campus environment during the session.
“Every university building must comply with the fire hazard standards. Internal safety inspections must be conducted every six months, while external assessments are required at least once a year,” he explained.
A presentation by BNPB Rapid Assessment Officer Aceng Asep Sopandi, S.Pd., M.M., titled “Mitigation and Drill: Earthquake Emergency Preparedness at FIKES UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, South Tangerang,” outlined the essential safety procedures to follow during an earthquake. He reminded participants that one of the most effective immediate actions during a quake is to take cover under a sturdy object and hold on firmly.
He also urged attendees to remain vigilant toward visible cracks or structural weaknesses in buildings and to ensure that all facilities meet earthquake-resistant standards.
“This training is crucial because disaster management will save your life someday. I won't sugarcoat this: when disaster happens, you're on your own. Everyone will be busy with themselves while panicking. This is all about surviving, and you might be the only one who makes it out alive,” he concluded.
The two-day program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on drills designed to strengthen the university’s preparedness and response capacity in the event of fires or earthquakes. Through initiatives like this, UIN Jakarta continues to enhance its commitment to safety, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for all members of its academic community.
