Fikes FGD discusses Islamic scientific tradition in Health science
Jakarta, UIN News Online – The Center for Scientific Integration Study (Puji) UIN Jakarta held a virtual Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activity in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences (Fikes), on Wednesday (06/30/2021).
The FGD entitled Integration of Science and Reactualization of Islamic Scientific Traditions in Health Sciences was initiated by three competent speakers, namely Rd Mulyadhi Kartanegara and lecturer of Islamic Thought at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) Akhmad Sodiq and Veni Hadju from Hasanuddin University.
Dean of Fikes UIN Jakarta Zilhadia in her remarks highly appreciate the implementation of this activity. “Fikes UIN Jakarta is currently preparing guidelines for the integration of Islamic sciences and health sciences as guidelines for the Fikes academic community,” she said.
According to Zilhadia, the realization already existed in 2004, but the formulation of integration has not been seriously discussed.
“We have the design, but on a smaller level. We want to have a common understanding of this integration at the Faculty level,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sodiq in his presentation emphasized that Islamic knowledge that entered the West was cut off and out of the point of divine sacredness, so that science became desacralized.
“It is necessary to hold a scientific orientation from the Western conventional concept development, so that the integration of science must be successfully integrated,” he said.
Meanwhile, Veni, who spoke about Islamic Studies and Health and Development Efforts, emphasized the balance between physical and psychological aspects.
“A healthy person is a person who is physically and psychologically balanced. When sick, it means that there is an imbalance in that person,” said Veni.
He continued, the imbalance was due to an irregular pattern of life, namely between lifestyle (eating, drinking, sleeping) with a stressful mindset.
“Don't always take medicine, but therapy with Qur'anic verses that can calm the psyche and affect the body,” he said.
He added, alms therapy can also heal and soften feelings. In fact, explained Veni, even cancer cells can be cured with thibbun nabawi and spiritual therapy.
On the same occasion, the Rector of UIN Jakarta in her closing remarks said that religious knowledge must be in harmony with science and should be developed in accordance with today’s perspective.
“Science and technology must be harmonized with universal Islamic teachings. Scientists in any field need to explore religious knowledge that can be applied in daily life,” said Rector Amany. (usa/mf)
