FIDK UIN Jakarta Holds Studium Generale on Islamic Journalism
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online –Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences (FIDK) UIN Jakarta holds Studium General on Islamic Journalism, themed “The Journalisms of Islam: Contending Views in Muslim Southeast Asia”, Wednesday, (03/15/2018) at Harun Nasution Main Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta. This event presents Prof Janet Steele (George Washington University, USA) who currently served as Director Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication as the keynote speaker.
Also present in the event, Dean of FIDK UIN Jakarta Dr Arief Subhan, accompanied by FIDK Deputy Deans, Department Heads, lecturers as well as students of FIDK UIN Jakarta.
Janet in her presentation revealed that there are several journalism principles that are in line with with the teachings of Islam, one of which is a journalist must tell the truth and must verify the initial information he obtained in order to avoid defamation. “This is in accordance with the 6th verses of surah al-Hujarah,” she said.
Furthermore, Janet also presents her research result on Islamic journalism in Indonesia and Malaysia.
At the end of her presentation, she also advised all participants who were dominated by students to become professional journalists.
On the same occasion, Dean of FIDK UIN Jakarta Dr Arief Subhan expressed his appreciation to Prof Janet Steele, he also hopes that this event can provide benefits for the students.
“Hopefully, the students can draw more knowledge about journalism,” said Arief.
Based on UIN News Online observation, all participants were very enthusiastic to follow the event. This is evidenced by many questions raised by the participants to the speaker. (usa)
