FEC: Essay Competition Encourages Youth to Write Scientific Papers
Aula Student Center, UIN News Online - The autonomous institution (LO) Fatahillah Researchers for Science and Humanity (FRESH) UIN Jakarta successfully held Talks and Grand Final of Fatahillah Essay Competition (FEC) with the theme “Voice of Faith: Elevating Religious Insights Through Essays and Public Speaking for a Meaningful Future” at UIN Jakarta Student Center Hall, Saturday (26/10/2024).
The event was attended by the academic community as well as 28 finalists of the essay competition. Beginning with remarks by the advisor of LO Fresh, Dr. Flori Ratna Sari Ph. D., according to her, FRESH has been established since 9 years ago, starting from the anxiety of the challenges faced by scientific writers and young researchers. In addition, Dr. Flori also invited students to continue to be enthusiastic in writing, she warned students not to worry if their writing was still not perfect because it was part of the learning process.
Then, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif M.A., Ph.D., on his occasion welcomed and fully supported the FEC event. According to him, this program is a sign of concern for the improvement of intellectual traditions wrapped in research. “Universities must continue to maintain academic traditions, FRESH encourages young people to re-familiarize this tradition,” he added.
Furthermore, Professor of Philology at UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Oman Faturrahman, M.Hum., in the keynote speech session expressed his pride in witnessing 28 FEC finalists from various universities in Indonesia. As a Professor of Philology, he underlined that philology is the root of various sciences, especially those related to writing and manuscripts. Prof. Oman also explained the importance of reading as a way to train writing skills and structured thinking. “Don't be part of a group that is not used to writing,” he concluded.
The next session was filled by the main expert researcher of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), M. Adly Rahandi S.Hut., Ph.D., who explained how BRIN supports the optimization of community research potential, especially among students. BRIN provides various programs to facilitate the publication of scientific work.
Then, Hayrat Foundation President Dr. Celal Akar in his session motivated the participants to continue to explore science through research. Another speaker, a CSRC UIN Jakarta advisor, Irfan Abubakar, MA, invited participants to better understand the history of technological development in contemporary civilization.
The event continued with talkshow sessions by experts in their fields and the grand final of 28 essay competition finalists from various universities in Indonesia. FEC 2024 is not only a competition, but also encourages the younger generation to continue writing and conducting research to strengthen intellectual traditions.
