In her report, the department head of FEB doctoral program Euis Amalia said the webinar was held in response to government policy through the merger of three national Islamic banks, Bank Mandiri Syariah, Bank BNI Syariah and Bank BRI Syariah.

"The theme raised at this national seminar is a hot issue along with the issuance of this policy by State Minister for BUMN Erick Thohir in October 2020," she explained.

As one model of the financial and banking industry, she explained, the domestic banking and Islamic banking financial industry needs to get an in-depth academic study. The government support in supporting the development of this industry is also urgently needed. It is known that the government, through the Ministry of BUMN, initiated the merger of three national Islamic banks as the prime mover of the national Islamic banking industry.

Based on the data obtained by UIN News Online, the results of the merger of the three state-owned Islamic banks are projected to generate total assets of IDR 245.87 trillion. The assets came from Bank Mandiri Syariah amounting to Rp 114.4 trillion; Bank BNI Syariah Rp 50.78 trillion; and Bank BRI Syariah Rp. 49.6 trillion based on total assets for the second quarter of 2020. The mergers are considered feasible in maximizing the potential of the national Islamic banking industry.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FEB UIN Jakarta Amilin in his speech said that the merger s expected to be able to accelerate the growth of the Islamic banking industry. In line with Dean of FEB, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis also conveyed the same thing when giving the Keynote Speech. According to the Rector, the merger of the three Islamic banks could raise optimism to develop the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia.

“Hopefully this policy will be able to accelerate the growth of the national Islamic banking industry so that it can contribute more to the national economy,” Said Amany (usa/zm)
