Featuring the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education: UIN Jakarta Highlights the Importance of Quran and Hadith in Islamic University
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News — As part of the Introduction to Academic Culture and Student Affairs (PBAK) 2025, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hosted a special public lecture featuring Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti, M.Ed., on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
With the theme “The Role of Youth and Students in Fostering Religious Moderation and Building a Just Civilization,” Prof. Mu’ti encouraged thousands of freshmen to cultivate open-mindedness, embrace change, and make moderation a guiding principle in national life.
In his keynote, Prof. Mu’ti emphasized that students are the generation shaping the nation’s future.
“Students must become agents of moderation who bring harmony, not tension, to society. Definitively, a moderate person is someone who can adapt to new people, understand, listen, and engage in dialogue across differences,” he stressed.
He further underlined that the foundation for building moderation lies in a sound understanding of Islamic teachings.
“We must have a firm grounding in the Qur’an, Hadith, and broad knowledge. With that, you can build a modern civilization while staying true to spiritual values,” he added.
Citing Al-Mujadilah 58:11, Prof. Mu’ti reminded students that Allah elevates those who believe and possess knowledge.
“The dignity of a person, even a nation, is determined by your faith and to His knowledge. Here at UIN Jakarta, if you persevere, Inshaallah, you will become a remarkable generation for Indonesia,” he affirmed.
This Qur’anic message, he added, resonates with PBAK 2025’s spirit of advancing justice and knowledge through moderation. Students, he said, must strive to be not only good speakers but also good listeners. The ability to understand and respect others, he emphasized, is key to fostering a peaceful and truthful society.
Closing his lecture, Prof. Mu’ti reminded them to remain earnest in their faith and studies.
“You may earn various student awards and achievements, but never forget that ultimate power belongs to Him. So, be a generation that is diligent, knowledgeable, faithful, and carries moderation in every step,” he concluded.
