FDIKOM UIN Jakarta Faculty Discusses Integration of Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Studies
FDIKOM Building, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Da'wa and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta (UIN Jakarta) once again held its scientific forum for lecturers based on Study Programs. This time, the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) Study Program served as the organizer through an event titled Diskusi Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam (SIKOPI) Series 2, Session 3, held at the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of the FDIKOM Building on Thursday (April 24, 2025).
Carrying the theme Integration of KPI Knowledge, the event aimed to explore in greater depth the dynamics of integrating communication sciences with Islamic values in broadcasting. The event was attended by FDIKOM Dean Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si., the Vice Deans, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, lecturers, and students from various levels. The discussion was officially opened by the Head of the KPI Study Program, Dr. Yopi Kusmiati, M.Si., and moderated by Kalsum Minangsih, M.A.
Two keynote speakers were featured in the discussion.
Dr. Fita Fathurokhmah, M.Si., in her presentation titled “Integration of Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Studies: Opportunities and Challenges”, emphasized the importance of transforming KPI studies to remain competitive and relevant amid the evolving global communication landscape. She highlighted the need for integration in the curriculum, the strengthening of human resources, and the development of distinctive theories rooted in Islamic values.
"Communication and Islamic Broadcasting studies must not only stay relevant but also actively contribute to the global discourse of communication sciences. Without integration and innovation, we will only be followers, not pioneers," she remarked.
The second speaker, Dr. Edi Amin, M.A., in his session titled “Efforts in Integrating Islamic Knowledge”, stressed the need for research approaches grounded in Islamic values as the main foundation for developing Islamic communication studies. He noted that the current dominance of Western communication paradigms must be balanced with strong, academically tested Islamic communication frameworks.
"We must formulate Islamic communication studies that are not only based on religious norms but also have scientific foundations that can withstand academic scrutiny. This integration needs to be carried out gradually and consistently," he explained.
Concluding the event, Dean of FDIKOM Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si., expressed his hope that the outcomes of the discussion would not stop at mere discourse but would be developed into strategic academic manuscripts.
"This forum should produce academic papers that can later be presented at the national KPI symposium next year. The goal is to strengthen KPI’s position as an integral part of communication sciences and affirm UIN Jakarta’s role as a pioneer in the development of integrated Islamic communication," he stated.
Through this forum, FDIKOM UIN Jakarta reaffirms its commitment to fostering synergy between scientific knowledge and Islamic values, showcasing a tangible contribution to the advancement of Islamic education within the field of communication.
