FAH UIN Jakarta International Webinar Encourages Innovation and Collaborative Research in Digital Humanities

Ciputat, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully organized an international webinar "Digital Humanities & SDGs: Innovations, Challenges, and the Future" on Thursday-Friday (August 4-5, 2025). This activity is a strategic forum to encourage innovation, strengthen collaborative research, and expand academic networks across countries.

This international webinar was attended by more than 300 participants from various universities in Indonesia and overseas partner campuses, such as Egypt, India, and the Netherlands. The event also featured more than 70 paper presentations from students, lecturers, and researchers, with topics ranging from Arabic language and literature, the history of Islamic civilization, and library science, Arabic translation (Tarjamah) and English language and literature.

Several leading experts in their fields attended as keynote speakers, including the Department of Library Science UIN Jakarta. Dr. Alfida, S.Ag., S.IP., MLIS., Department of Arabic, UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Oman Fathurrahman M.Hum., Department of Arabic, Aligarh Muslim University (India) Prof. Mohd Sanaullah, Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University (India) Prof. Naushad Ali PM, Department of Arabic, Al Azhar University (Cairo) Dr. Fathallah Muhammad Fathallah Zaqiziq, English Literature Department, Suez University (Egypt) Prof. Khaled Mustafa Karam, Research Master in International Development Studies, University of Amsterdam; Myrthe deVree, Ph.D. Candidate.

UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., warmly welcomed all participants from various countries. He emphasized that this event is not only an academic agenda but also reflects the university's real commitment to enhancing interdisciplinary innovation and expanding collaborative research networks.

"This event is not only an academic agenda. It is part of our broader commitment as the University of International Education, Interdisciplinary Innovation, and Collaborative Research," she said.

The Rector added that this theme was set as FAH's priority agenda for the 2025-2029 period, reflecting the determination to make the humanities field more adaptive, visionary, and engaged at the global level. He also expressed his appreciation to all those who have contributed, ranging from resource persons, lecturers, and researchers to students.

Likewise, Dean of FAH Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., CIQnR, highlighted the strategic relevance of this webinar theme. He explained that this activity is a concrete form of international collaboration as well as concrete evidence of the establishment of synergies with global institutions, especially Aligarh Muslim University in India.

"We believe that digital humanities hold great potential to respond to global challenges not only through research but also through collaboration that bridges cultures, disciplines, and generations," he explained.

He added that this event includes two main components, namely the 'International Conference' webinar, which presents discussions with global experts, and the academic competition, which is intended for students with the aim of fostering creativity and critical thinking of the younger generation.

This international webinar is expected to be a significant first step in strengthening the role of digital humanities, in line with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasize equality, inclusion, education, and ethical innovation.
