FAH UIN Jakarta holds international conference on pandemic and humanity

Rectorate, UIN News Online – The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) UIN Jakarta, in collaboration with Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences UNSW, Peace Research Institute of Oslo, Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Peace Research Insitute Oslo, Social Trust Fund of UIN Jakarta, and the Indonesiann Ministry of Culture, Research and Technology holds international conference on Wednesday-Friday (08/11-13/2021) through zoom application and live streamed in YouTube..

By raising the theme on “Pandemic of Humanity: Memory, Creativity, and Solidarity”, this conference invites a number of expert speakers, among them are Ellen L Idler (Emory College, USA), Azyumardi Azra (UIN Jakarta), and Hilmar Farid (Indonesian Ministry of Culture, Research and Technology).

Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her opening remarks said this international conference aims to explore human’s strivings to save lives against pandemics. “They are ranging from digging histories on previous pandemics and the responses, to various recent innovations in medical technologies, transportation, education, and religious interpretation,” she said.

She also added that conference welcomes contributions from all relevant academic disciplines in search of diverse patterns of pandemic of humanity. “This is a good opportunity for academics to present their research results,” she added.

In line with the Rector, Dean of FAH UIN Jakarta Saiful Umam also said that this pandemic is a momentum to look back to humanities and other related studies and highlight the studies’ relevance to shed light on the complexity of pandemics and their multidimensional impacts.

“For that reason, we also invited a number of speakers from various academic institutions who would highlight this issue from various angles they studied,” he explained.

For information, the conference is also filled with special panel discussions according to the specified topics.
