#FacultyNews: Faculty of Medicine UIN Jakarta Expands Students' Global Experience Through Exchange Program
MK Tadjudin Auditorium, UIN Online News – The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is expanding its students' academic experience on a global scale through a student exchange program. This initiative serves as a strategic step toward the internationalization of the faculty. The send-off ceremony and briefing for the Overseas Medical Student Elective Program were held virtually via Zoom Meeting on Wednesday (August 19, 2026).
The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni, drg. Laifa Annisa Hendarmin, Ph.D.; Head of the Medical Study Program, dr. Marita Fadhilah, Dr.Med.Sc.; Head of the Doctor Professional Education Study Program, dr. Risahmawati, Ph.D.; Head of the Module Team, Sophie Dwiyanti, S.Psi., Psychologist; along with the participating exchange students.
In this year’s program, FK UIN Jakarta students have the opportunity to participate in academic activities at Tohoku University, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Chiang Mai University (CMU). The event opened with an academic briefing by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni, followed by an explanation of the operational guidelines for the overseas elective program.
Head of the Module Team, Sophie Dwiyanti, S.Psi., Psychologist, explained that the exchange program offers students a valuable opportunity to gain international academic exposure while achieving key program objectives.
“There are at least four main goals of this program: to broaden students' perspectives on global healthcare systems, to provide cross-cultural clinical, community, or research experience, to enhance communication, adaptability, and professionalism, and to foster benchmarking against global clinical education standards,” she explained.
To support these goals, the program is divided into four main tracks: Clinical Attachment, Community Health Program, Medical Research Elective, and Public Health/NGO Internship. These components provide hands-on experience across clinical, community, research, and public health sectors within a cross-cultural environment.
Head of the Medical Study Program, dr. Marita Fadhilah, Dr.Med.Sc., provided details regarding technical academic support for students during their stay abroad. She encouraged students to stay dedicated throughout the program to ensure optimal outcomes.
“For our students, I hope you remain diligent so that all targets and activities run smoothly, ultimately producing high-quality publications and strong communication,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Head of the Doctor Professional Education Study Program, dr. Risahmawati, Ph.D., reminded students to maintain their health and uphold Islamic values while abroad. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with the module team and study program heads if any challenges arise regarding logbooks or program outcomes.
“If you encounter difficulties in fulfilling your logbook requirements or program outcomes while abroad, please reach out to the module team or your department heads immediately. This will allow us to guide and assist you early on, ensuring you get the most out of your academic activities there,” she advised.
The event concluded with words of encouragement and final guidance from the academic leads, highlighting key considerations for students during their international placement.
Through this student exchange program, FK UIN Jakarta continues to strengthen its commitment to internationalizing education—providing a platform for students to broaden their global health insights, gain cross-cultural experience, and develop crucial communication, adaptation, and professional skills.
