Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Jakarta Holds ICONQUHAS 2017
Main Auditorium UIN News Online – Dozens of al-Qur’an and hadith scholar from various universities and research institutes both local and international presented their study results in the International Conference on Qur'an and Hadith Studies (ICONQUHAS), Monday-Wednesday, (November 6-8, 2017) at Prof Dr Harun Nasution Main auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta. A total of 63 papers are scheduled to be presented at a conference held by the Department of Science of Al-Qur'an and Tafsir, Faculty of Ushuluddin (FU) UIN Jakarta.
Dean of FU UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Masri Mansoer MA in his remarks said that this conference is intended to bring together scholars and researchers from a variety of disciplines who pay particular attention to the current status, the history, and the uses of the Quranic and Hadith in modern Indonesia, to share their knowledge and their research findings. “This is the reason why this event was held,” he said.
The seminar will present dozens of research results in parallel classes according to the sub-topics discussed. Some sub-topics are; Issues on Methodologies of the Qur’an and Hadith Studies; Qur’an, Hadith and Social Issues: Religious Inclusiveness and Freedom; Qur’an, Hadith and Social Issues: Piety and Social Engagement; dan Methodologies of the Qur’an and Hadith Studies: Literary Theory, Humanities and Sociological Approaches to Qur’an and Hadith.
The conference convener, Kusmana Ph.D, to UIN News Online said that said that the conference itself is one of FU UIN Jakarta's efforts in encouraging the study of the Qur'anic exegesis and the hadith according to the needs of the eras. In order to be read more publicly, selected works will be published through proceedings indexed by Thomson Reuters and Atlantis Press.
In addition to dozens of scholars, the international conference also invites a number of speakers, including Istiqlal Mosque Imam as well as Professor of Tafsir UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar MA. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Notre Dame USA Mun'im Sirry, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Director of the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program at the University of California Riverside Muhammad Ali, and Chair of Islam in Southeast Asia at Georgetown University's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding Norbani Ismail.
In his speech, Nasaruddin said that the study of Qur'anic studies needs to be continuously developed in harmony with the challenges of the times. “I hope that UIN Jakarta will become a spearhead in the development of this study,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, Mun'im said that the study of Qur'anic exegesis at various Western universities has been growing. According to him, many Western academics are interested in studying and researching the content of al-Quran from various scientific perspectives. “The Quranic study is currently in its Golden Age. Not only Muslim society and Muslim academicians, Western Society and academicians are also interested in studying the Qur’an,” he said. (usa)
