Faculty of Medicine of UIN Jakarta Welcomed Its First Specialist Medical Students
Faculty of Medicine, UIN News Online – The Faculty of Medicine (FK) UIN Jakarta celebrated a historic moment on Monday (06/01/2025) as it officially welcomed its first cohort of students in the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS). The opening ceremony, held at the MK Tadjudin Auditorium, marked a significant milestone in the advancement of medical education at UIN Jakarta.
The event was officiated by key leaders from the university and affiliated hospitals. Among the attendees were Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A.; Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS. Representatives from the medical community included Prof. Dr. Faisal Yunus, Ph.D., Sp.P(K), FCCP, FISR, Chairman of the Indonesian Pulmonology Collegium; dr. Wahyu Widodo, Sp.OT(K), President Director of Fatmawati Hospital; and dr. Ida Bagus Sila Wiweka, Sp.P(K), President Director of Gunawan Partowidigdo Pulmonary Hospital, Cisarua Bogor.
In his welcoming address, Dean of FK dr. Achmad Zaki expressed gratitude for the support of university leaders and affiliated institutions and shared his excitement about launching the PPDS program. “This program is a new milestone for the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta, as we aim to produce highly qualified medical professionals imbued with strong Islamic values,” he remarked.
The launch of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Program reflects the Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to contributing to the nation’s healthcare sector. Achmad Zaki emphasized the program’s significance in addressing the nation’s healthcare needs and expressed high hopes for the inaugural cohort.
The program is supported by the official decree from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (No. 474/E/0/2024), granting UIN Jakarta the license to offer the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Program. This achievement makes UIN Jakarta the first State Islamic Religious University (PTKIN) in Indonesia to offer specialist medical education.
Students in the program will benefit from hands-on training and clinical practice through partnerships with leading hospitals, including Fatmawati General Hospital and Gunawan Partowidigdo Pulmonary Hospital, Cisarua Bogor. These collaborations ensure that students gain valuable experience in real-world medical environments.
Prior to launching the specialist program, the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta had already established itself with its Physician Education Study Program and Physician Professional Education Study Program. The addition of the PPDS program represents a significant step forward in expanding the faculty’s academic offerings.
The application process for the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Education Program opened in October 2024, with selected participants beginning their education in January 2025. The first batch of PPDS students marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta as it continues to strive for excellence in education and healthcare.
