Faculty News: Mining Engineering Students Conduct Field Study at Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark

Rectorate Building, UIN Online News—The Mining Engineering Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) recently conducted Field Lecture 1 (Geology) for second-semester students from the 2024 cohort. This activity took place from June 16–20, 2025, and was attended by 95 students in the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark area, West Java.

As a mandatory component of the Mining Engineering curriculum, this field lecture aimed to provide direct learning experience on geological phenomena and rock characteristics within the geoconservation area.

Using an observation and exploration-based learning approach, students were guided to identify geological structures, understand landscape formation processes, and recognize the importance of geological site conservation. This activity is also expected to foster environmental awareness and enhance students' academic understanding in directly applying geological science in the field.

Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, as a world geopark site, serves as an ideal natural laboratory to support the learning of FST UIN Jakarta's Mining Engineering students.
