Expanding Access for Students from Low-Income Households
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta is committed to ensuring that access to higher education remains open to academically qualified students regardless of their socio-economic background. As part of this commitment, the University has established an institutional target to allocate at least 20% of new-student admission opportunities to students from the lowest household-income group or other more specifically defined economically disadvantaged groups.
This target reflects the University's commitment to educational equity and its responsibility to reduce financial barriers that may prevent talented students from entering higher education.

Supporting Access Through Targeted Admission and Financial Aid
To support the implementation of this target, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta combines its student admission process with financial-aid mechanisms designed for students experiencing economic disadvantage. One of the principal mechanisms is the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) scholarship program. KIP-K is intended to expand access to higher education for students from economically disadvantaged households who demonstrate the academic potential to pursue university studies.
In 2025, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta received an allocation of 400 KIP-K scholarship places for new students. The selection process involved approximately 1,400 applicants, with candidates undergoing administrative verification and a multi-stage selection process before 400 students were selected as scholarship recipients.
Recipients came from various faculties and were admitted through different national and institutional admission pathways, demonstrating that financial circumstances do not restrict students to a single admission route. Through KIP-K, eligible students are able to enter higher education with financial support that reduces the burden associated with tuition and educational expenses.
An Income-Based Tuition System
The University's commitment to widening access is also reflected in its Single Tuition Fee (Uang Kuliah Tunggal/UKT) system. UKT placement takes students' and families' economic capacity into consideration. At Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, UKT Groups 1 to 3 are subsidised categories, providing lower tuition obligations for students with more limited financial capacity.
The University has also established a commitment to accommodate students in the lowest UKT category. This mechanism ensures that students from lower-income households can enter and continue higher education under a tuition structure that better reflects their economic circumstances. Students who consider their initial UKT classification inconsistent with their financial situation may also request a tuition-fee review or adjustment by submitting supporting socio-economic documentation.
Transparent and Inclusive Selection
The University applies administrative and verification procedures to ensure that financial assistance reaches students who meet the required criteria. The KIP-K selection process includes document verification and faculty-level assessment. This process is designed to assess both academic eligibility and socio-economic need, while ensuring that scholarship allocation is conducted transparently and accountably.
By integrating targeted admission, scholarship opportunities, subsidised tuition categories, and tuition-adjustment mechanisms, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta seeks to provide meaningful pathways into higher education for students who might otherwise face significant financial barriers.

Commitment to Equitable Higher Education
The University's minimum 20% admission target for students from the lowest economic group represents a broader commitment to social inclusion in higher education.
Rather than relying on a single scholarship program, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta supports economically disadvantaged students through a combination of targeted admissions, government-funded scholarships, subsidised tuition, and financial-adjustment mechanisms.
These measures demonstrate the University's continuing commitment to ensuring that financial disadvantage does not prevent qualified students from accessing higher education and developing their academic potential.
