Events About Sustainable Use of Land: Support or Organise Events Aimed to Promote Conservation and Sustainable Utilisation of the Land, Including Forests and Wild Land
The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University held the “FST Tree Planting Movement 2026” on January 20, 2026, under the theme “Plant a Tree, Plant a Hope.” Initiated by Dean Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, Ph.D., the initiative promotes environmental conservation by replacing conventional congratulatory flower arrangements with living plants. During the event, 17 trees were planted in the FST courtyard, while additional seedlings were allocated to the Agribusiness Garden at PPG Sawangan. Through this initiative, FST Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University aims to inspire a wider culture of environmental awareness and strengthen its commitment to preserving green ecosystems alongside its pursuit of academic excellence.
The program was carried out from 2024 to 2026 at Campus 1 to Campus 4 of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University. The execution involved vertical gardens, campus parks, the Ferns Garden, the Plant Conservation Collection: Endangered Species, the banana conservation garden at Campus 3, Cikuya Agriland at Campus 4, fish ponds at Campus 1, and the Goose Farming Program with bird, rabbit, and cat conservation at Campus 2.
Based on supporting data and visual documentation, the program successfully maintained conservation areas from 2024 to 2026, with fern species identified increasing from 10 to 16 and then 175, and banana varieties conserved increasing from 22 to 24. The benefits include preservation of biodiversity and agricultural genetic diversity, habitats for urban wildlife, and stronger practical learning and research through living laboratories.
