Establishment Plan for PhD Programs: UIN Jakarta Conducts Field Assessments
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News - UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is preparing to launch three doctoral programs across three faculties: Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Sharia and Law, and Faculty of Adab and Humanities.
As for this reason, UIN Jakarta performed a field assessment for the establishment of the new study programs, conducted by the evaluation team from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia for over two days (27-28/2/2025).
The field evaluation activities began with an introduction by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar M.A. Ph.D. He was accompanied by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie; the Head of the Quality Assurance Institute, Prof. Dr. Khamami Zada; the deans of the faculties; the heads of the bureaus; and other authorities of UIN Jakarta. Dr. Imam Bukhari M.Ed., Head of the Subdirectorate for the Academic Development in State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKI), was also present in the meeting.
The evaluators and supervisors designated for the assessment are Prof. Dr. Syamsun Niam, Prof. Dr. Ris'an Rusli, and Malida Awwalia for the Doctoral Program in Islamic Civilization History; Prof. Dr. Ali Mudlofir, Prof. M. Sirozi, Ph.D., and Ribkah Hafidhatun Nurillah for the Doctoral Program in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting; and Prof. Dr. Tulus Suryanto, Prof. Dr. Miftah Arifin, M.R.E., and Dr. Lukman Nugraha, M.Ed., for the Doctoral Program in Sharia Science.
These assessors will provide significant insights to ensure that the implementation of doctorate programs enhances research and yields high-quality graduates. Imam Bukhari guarantees the best quality from this team in order to maintain UIN Jakarta's recognition.
"Welcome to UIN Jakarta. I assure you that each faculty will adequately support these evaluator teams. Once again, thank you for your visit to handle the field assessment for the initiation of UIN Jakarta's doctoral programs," Rector of UIN Jakarta greeted in his address.
Due to the growth of postgraduate programs in advanced nations, Asep Saipudin Jahar explained that UIN Jakarta plans to pursue both the quantity and quality of its master's and doctorate programs. The existence of postgraduate programs serves as an indicator of the research and knowledge generated, making it crucial to determine a university's quality.
According to statistics from the Quality Assurance Agency (LPM), three proposed programs are scheduled for three faculties: Doctoral Program in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM), Doctoral Program in Sharia Science at the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH), and Doctoral Program in Islamic Civilization History at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH).
As for now, UIN Jakarta offers three doctorate programs: Doctorate in Islamic Studies at the Graduate School (SPS), the Doctoral Program in Sharia Banking at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and the Doctoral Program in Islamic Religious Education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK).
In closing, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie, conveyed that the initiation of the doctorate program is integral to the university's strategic plan to enhance academics and research at an international level.
"The introduction of this new doctoral program propels UIN Jakarta to effectively cultivate academics and researchers who will advance scientific development, especially in Islamic communication, sharia, and the history of Islamic civilization," he added.
