Enhancing International Publication Visibility, LP2M UIN Jakarta Holds Coaching Session

Syahida Inn, UIN News Online — The Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) at UIN Jakarta held a "Coaching Session for International Article Publication" on Friday (19/7/2024) at Syahida Inn, Campus 2. The event featured experts in their respective fields, including Prof. Amelia Fauzia, M.A., Ph.D., Professor of Indonesian Islamic History; Prof. Dick van Der Meij, Professor of Nusantara Manuscripts from Leiden University; and Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, M.A., Ph.D., Professor of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) and Social Welfare.

In the session, Prof. Amelia Fauzia emphasized the importance of publishing books and international articles. She recommended that every faculty at UIN Jakarta support coaching programs at both the study program and department levels. Prof. Amelia also stated that book and monograph publications are key to enhancing researchers' reputations, as international publishers often seek proactive authors.

"Currently, there are various types of international publications, such as books and monographs. Therefore, it is important for us to have our writings published by international publishers. These publishers often seek materials from active writers," she said.

Furthermore, Prof. Amelia explained that publications such as books, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries are valuable for strengthening academic reputations. She stressed that writing books, whether individually or collaboratively, holds more value than journal articles.

"Books can be written individually or collaboratively. Journal articles are assessed based on Scopus, whereas book chapters come in various forms, including encyclopedia entries. Although encyclopedias are not included in Scopus, they still help enhance one's reputation as an expert," she explained.

Prof. Amelia also highlighted that various types of writing, such as research articles, book reviews, and observation reports, are important in the academic realm. Although book reviews are often considered less important, she emphasized that they are a significant strategy for increasing international visibility.

"By writing reviews of the latest books, we not only showcase our work to the international community but also boost our writing spirit," she said.

The event, attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., and participated by UIN Jakarta lecturers and researchers, aimed to encourage researchers to be more active in writing and participating in international conferences. Although the event did not specifically focus on any particular conference, it is hoped that the results from this coaching session will be presented at a conference to be held in September in collaboration with the Center for International Cooperation (PLKI).
