Energy Efficiency Services for Industry: Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Brings Direct Clean Energy Services to Local Industry

Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta is providing direct academic and technical services to local industries, professional associations, and state-owned enterprises to improve energy efficiency and promote clean energy adoption. The services take the form of free workshops, public lectures, seminars, and joint research, most of them run by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).

The program is aligned with UI GreenMetric standards. Its main goal is to bridge academic expertise with industrial needs through technical workshops, collaborative research on renewable energy options, and capacity-building programs that support sustainable industrial practices.

On the research side, FST launched a collaboration with PT Cloudtronics Indonesia Jaya on February 12, 2025, to develop smart automated systems, cashierless transactions, and energy-efficient retail technologies through an AI vending machine project. In September 2025, the faculty also engaged Japanese companies and organizations on agricultural product processing, bio-resources, and sustainable technology transfer, followed by a research collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture on sustainable agriculture, bio-energy integration, and resource efficiency.

Clean energy was also on the agenda. In September 2025, FST held a public lecture with PT Pertamina (Persero) on green energy innovation, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) made from Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD). Earlier, on July 10, 2025, a hybrid workshop with the HAGI Student Chapter covered seismic data conditioning workflows and machine learning applications for energy exploration and clean energy evaluation.

The university also reached out to the mining sector. On October 13, 2025, a lecture with Indonesia Blasting Engineering (IBES) addressed environmental impact assessments, vibration control, and mitigation of negative industrial externalities. Ten days later, a National Mining Seminar at the Harun Nasution Auditorium brought together speakers from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), and PT Adaro Indonesia to discuss sustainable mining strategies, energy transition challenges, and mineral industry policies.

According to the unit’s report, these services help strengthen the technical competencies of industry partners and academic participants, promote energy-saving innovations, and deepen industry-academia synergy. The report notes high enthusiasm and active participation from corporate and government partners. Looking ahead, the university plans to expand direct energy audits and efficiency assessments for local manufacturing and mining sectors, institutionalize long-term joint research programs on renewable energy options, and intensify technology transfer workshops.
