Empowering Change: UIN Jakarta PSGA's Bold Efforts to Combat Sexual Violence on Campus

Main Conference Room, UIN News Online To foster a safe, supportive environment for all students, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) is intensifying efforts to prevent sexual violence on campus. A seminar held in the Main Conference Room, Rectorate Building, on Friday (10/11/2024) focused on raising awareness and promoting prevention in the digital age.

Head of PSGA Dr. Hj. Wiwi Siti Sajaroh, M.Ag., and Musfiah Saidah, S.Sos., M.Si., PSGA’s Gender Coordinator, led the event.. Wiwi outlined PSGA’s role in campus-wide initiatives for gender equity and the protection of women and children. “PSGA provides a safe space for consultation and leads research on gender and child studies. As per the Rector’s Decree, we also actively address any reported incidents of sexual violence,” she explained.

The seminar featured an impactful presentation by gender advocate Ida Ruspita, S.Sos., who, alongside moderator Ariqah Khansa, S.Sos., addressed the significance of gender equality and the importance of vigilant awareness, particularly in social media settings. "Everyone, regardless of gender, deserves the right to speak up and act freely," she stated, adding that preventing sexual violence requires collective action.

The event highlighted UIN Jakarta’s commitment to creating a safer campus through awareness, education, and empowerment. Students, including active social media influencers, attended the session, underlining the role of digital platforms in promoting a safe campus.

Through its continued dedication to gender equality and justice, PSGA at UIN Jakarta aims to set a precedent for educational institutions in Indonesia. With ongoing programs in research, teaching, and community outreach, PSGA accelerates the impact of these initiatives, particularly in promoting gender-sensitive academic work.

“Together, we can ensure a campus environment where everyone feels respected and safe,” Wiwi concluded, reinforcing UIN Jakarta’s dedication to fostering a culture of safety and equity for all.
