Election Appeal 2024 from the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta

The Academic Community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the People of Indonesia

Assalamu'alaikum Wr. Wb.
Bissmillahirrahmanirrohim

Considering the important role of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) in determining the direction and future of the Indonesian nation, I as the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta again appeal to all academicians of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the Indonesian people wherever they are to:

1. Be part of a civilized, dignified, and integrity democratic process, by exercising the right to vote according to conscience and strong beliefs on Wednesday (February 14, 2024), without pressure or persuasion from any party.

2. Promote harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood among fellow citizens, regardless of differences in political, religious, ethnic, or class choices, in accordance with the spirit of Unity in Diversity.

3. Responding to any information about the 2024 Elections with a wise attitude, critical reasoning, and responsibility, by not being easily provoked by issues that are slanderous, false information, or hate speech, and by always verifying the truth and source of information before disseminating it.

4. Avoiding all speech and actions that have the potential to disrupt the implementation of the 2024 Elections.

5. Respect the results of the 2024 elections as the legitimate and constitutional choice of the people, and respect any legal efforts made by parties who feel aggrieved, by prioritizing the principles of justice and truth.

6. Participate in maintaining the stability, security, and unity of the nation after the 2024 Elections, by not engaging in actions that can divide or threaten state sovereignty, and by jointly supporting the elected government to advance Indonesia.

Thus we convey this appeal. May the 2024 Elections run smoothly and peacefully and Allah SWT always protects and blesses the academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the Indonesian nation wherever it is.
