Elected as President, Rector of UIN Jakarta Leads Asian Islamic University Association Assembly Meeting

Malaysia, UIN News Online – On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, chaired the first assembly meeting of the Asian Islamic University Association (AIUA) in Perak, Malaysia, since being elected as the president of the association. The event was attended by the rectors and leaders of more than 20 Islamic universities who are executives and members of AIUA.

In the assembly, Prof. Asep presented the strategic plan for AIUA for the 2024-2026 period along with the steps to achieve these goals. Additionally, the assembly established the executive committee of AIUA, comprising 11 Islamic universities from Asia, including institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei, and the Maldives.

The event was moderated by the Secretary-General of AIUA, Prof. Wan Sabri, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), Perak, Malaysia. USAS hosted the event and organized the 7th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilization (WCITC) under the theme "Together We Stand: Muslim and Global Humanity," which ran from July 28 to 31, 2024. The conference and assembly were inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, and the Sultan of Perak, Duli Paduka Nazrin Muizuddin Shah, with guest speaker Yusuf Kalla.

This assembly was part of the rector’s visit to Malaysia, which also included the signing of an MoU and discussions on international community service programs with Inti University, exploring collaboration on the development of Syarif Hidayatullah Hospital with KPJ Healthcare Group, cooperation on hospital management and research with Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital, and preparing staff internship programs at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The delegation also included the Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development, Din Wahid, Ph.D., Head of the Center for International Cooperation, Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, Ph.D., and the Director of Syarif Hidayatullah Hospital, Drg.
