Dirasat Islamiyah Students Trace the Scholarly Influence of Hadith Professors Through Scopus-Indexed Publications

Jombang, UIN News Online— How can a scholar’s contribution to the development of hadith studies be measured? Two students from the Faculty of Islamic Studies (Fakultas Dirasat Islamiyah/FDI) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Inas Sesya Faihana and Auliya Milla Rosyidah, explored this question through research examining scholarly publications and their influence on hadith scholarship. They presented their findings at the International Conference on Hadith Studies (ICHS), held as part of the 2026 Muktamar Turats Nabawi (MUTUN), on October 5–7, 2026, at Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng in Jombang, East Java.

According to a press release from UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Islamic Studies, cited by Berita UIN Online on Friday, October 16, 2026, the students’ research, titled “Contributions of Hadith Professors at State Islamic Religious Universities to the Development of Hadith Studies Based on Scopus-Indexed Publications and Citations,” examined the scholarly works of three hadith professors from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Cirebon, and UIN Kudus. The study sought to trace their contributions to the development of hadith scholarship by analyzing Scopus-indexed publications and their citation patterns.

Under the supervision of FDI lecturer Dr. Fatihunnada, Lc., M.A., Inas and Auliya employed Citation Context Analysis (CCA). Rather than simply counting how often a scholarly work is cited, this approach examines the context in which citations appear to understand how a publication is referenced and used in academic discourse.

Through this approach, the study offers a deeper perspective on how the contributions of hadith scholars can be assessed. Scholarly publications are viewed not merely as research outputs but also as part of an ongoing intellectual dialogue that can be traced through how other researchers use, interpret, and develop the ideas presented in earlier works.

The research connects hadith studies with scholarly publication analysis, an approach increasingly used in contemporary academia. Citation Context Analysis provides opportunities to examine how professors’ works are referenced, applied, and positioned within subsequent research.

This perspective is relevant to the development of hadith studies at Indonesia’s State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN), particularly in expanding research methodologies and understanding the evolution of hadith scholarship within the international scholarly publishing ecosystem.

The students’ research also aligns with the ICHS theme at MUTUN 2026: “The Development of Hadith Studies in Pesantren: From the Tradition of Transmission toward the Production of Contemporary Knowledge.” The theme highlights the evolution of hadith studies in Islamic boarding schools, from traditional knowledge transmission to the production of contemporary scholarship.

The in-person conference, organized with the involvement of the Association of Hadith Studies (ASILHA), brought together academics, researchers, and students to exchange ideas on developments in hadith scholarship. The forum also welcomed experts from universities and Ma’had Aly institutions, including international delegates.

Inas and Auliya participated as both delegates and research presenters following a process of research preparation and academic selection. They developed their article, conducted research in line with the conference theme, completed the online registration process, and underwent peer review and revisions based on reviewers’ feedback before being selected to present their findings.

The experience gave both students an opportunity to test their research ideas before an academic audience, receive constructive feedback, and broaden their perspectives on the development of hadith studies.

Their participation also demonstrates the opportunities available to Islamic studies students to conduct research that brings together Islamic intellectual traditions and contemporary methodological approaches. Through research and academic dialogue across institutions, students can contribute to enriching hadith scholarship at both the national and international levels.

Dean of UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Hj. Yuli Yasin, M.A., praised Inas Sesya Faihana and Auliya Milla Rosyidah for their participation in the international conference. She viewed their involvement as an important part of the faculty’s efforts to encourage students to engage actively in research, develop innovative academic approaches, and expand the international contribution of Islamic scholarship.

According to Yuli, presenting research at an international academic forum provides students with an opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, build scholarly networks, and broaden their perspectives through dialogue with researchers from diverse backgrounds.

She expressed hope that this achievement would inspire other FDI students to continue developing a strong research culture and producing scholarly work that advances Islamic studies, particularly hadith scholarship. (Waskito/Lisnawati/Zm)
