Demographic bonus must be balanced with sufficient employment rate

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Indonesia will face a demographic bonus in 2030. This demographic bonus will provide an abundant workforce and a large market potential, along with the increasing productive age of labour force.. If this is not balanced with the availability of sufficient employment rates, this will cause social, economic and political problems.

This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her speech during the opening of webinar entitled “Implementasi UU Cipta Kerja Bagi UMKM dan Tantangan Bonus Demografi” on Wednesday (12/15/2020).

According to the Rector, the ratification of the Omnibus Law by the DPR and the Government is considered as the government's strategy in dealing with this demographic bonus. Therefore, the existence of the Omnibus Law is intended to create employment opportunities, not only to regulate the labor.

“The Omnibus Law is one of the government's efforts to improve the national economy competitiveness in the midst of increasingly fierce global economic competition,” said Rector Amany.

Rector also emphasized that the current Covid-19 pandemic is a is a crisis that must be faced. And one way to get out of this crisis is by establishing strategic cooperation in order to strengthen the national investment climate.

On this occasion, her party welcomed the cooperation from government and non-government institutions. This cooperation can take the form of seminars, workshops, research, or strengthening to the economic community and entrepreneurship, especially in the field of sharia economic, sharia cooperatives, and Islamic boarding schools.

“Empowerment of MSMEs within the pesantren and the Muslim small and medium entreprises has the potential to be developed,” she said.
