DEMA University Holds Public Dialogue Related to Terrorism
Student Center Hall, UIN News Online- Student Executive Council (DEMA) UIN Jakarta held a public dialogue with the headline, "Looking Ideal Format Preventing Terrorism in Indonesia", the event was held at the Student Center Hall on Wednesday (03/08/2017).
Present as a speaker, Gugun Gunadi (Police Chief representative of South Tangerang), Khairul Fahmi (ISESS researchers), and Ahmad Saifuddin Fathoni together with M. Andrean as moderator in the event that day.
In his presentation, Gugun mentioned that terrorism can occur with a variety of backgrounds, ranging from radical ideology, to political interests in one place.
"So far, as preventive efforts, the authorities, in this case the police in response to the terrorism threat is among them to impose the rule of law that will narrow the movement of terrorists," said Gugun.
He added that, apart to the preventing matter, authorities also do coup d’état by giving reeducation to the groups who have proven potential to become terrorists.
"While the hidden groups, which have regular meetings and lead to a radical thought against the country still remains a challenge to be revealed and that is still being developed to find solutions," he said.
Gugun also stated, terrorism appears from a radical thinking, and due to this radical thinking  avoidance, the effort could do by the public, especially students is by studying Islam perfectly, avoid terrorism ideology, open mind and tolerant to differences,
At the same place, Khairul Fahmi as observers conveyed his view about terrorism in Indonesia, a strategic action that can be done to deal with terrorist is mitigation. Mitigation according to him is the scope efforts including to combat, eliminate and foster the ability to face the risks from threatening activities.
"This also includes the ability to respond to situations and perform recovery in the aftermath of the crimes. In this case, criminal behavior diminished which refer to be an act of terrorism, " he said.
In line with other presenters, Ahmad Fathoni added that Indonesia is very pluralistic in all respects. Therefore, it takes tolerance behavior and learning between cultures, religions, ethnicities, and others.
"We may have heard a lot about tolerance, but applying is very difficult. Because, to be able to apply tolerance in each individual, people need broader knowledge, unlimited patience, and a wide paradigm of thinking" said Ahmad. (im)
