Debunking Agricultural Stereotypes, UIN Jakarta Agribusiness Program Fuses End-to-End Supply Chain Management With Financial Literacy and Agripreneurship
JAKARTA, UIN Online News – Transforming traditional perceptions surrounding agricultural education, the Agribusiness Study Program within the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is actively equipping young scholars to lead Indonesia's modern food economy. Moving far beyond conventional farming and manual cultivation techniques, the interdisciplinary program seamlessly merges agricultural science with strategic management, financial accounting, and market economics.
Highlighting the academic experience from a student perspective, Daniya Kautsarainani, an Agribusiness scholar from the Class of 2023, shared how the curriculum redefines the scope of the agricultural sector.
"In Agribusiness, we examine how agricultural commodities are strategically managed from upstream production to downstream distribution," Daniya explained. "It is not merely about planting crops, but mastering business management, marketing strategies, financial analysis, and identifying commercial opportunities across the entire food supply chain."
A central highlight of the curriculum is its heavy focus on economics and corporate finance. Students are trained to construct detailed financial statements, evaluate production costs, and perform business feasibility studies—proving that successful agricultural ventures depend heavily on sound financial literacy.
Beyond classroom lectures, the program mandates intensive field research every semester. Students participate in observational field trips and structured interviews with farmers, livestock breeders, and agricultural traders to analyze real-world market dynamics with these focuses:
- Farming System Analysis (Usaha Tani): Students conduct field surveys across diverse regional hubs, collect primary socio-economic data, execute mathematical yield analyses, and defend their empirical findings before faculty review panels.
- Public Speaking and Stakeholder Communication: Regular field immersions train students to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, bridging academic theory with grassroots agricultural realities.
Through this comprehensive blend of science, finance, and field research, UIN Jakarta demonstrates that modern agriculture requires strategic planners, financial managers, and innovative entrepreneurs.
