Day Four of UIN Jakarta's 141st Graduation Ceremony: Graduates Encouraged to Be Adaptable, Have Integrity, and Contribute to Society
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially inaugurated 773 graduates during the 141st Open Senate Session for the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral Programs for the 2025/2026 academic year on its fourth day, at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Sunday (September 13, 2026). Under the theme “Establishing Innovative Graduates with Integrity and an Impact on Humanity,” UIN Jakarta graduates are projected to become individuals capable of adapting to global changes and advancements, as well as applying the knowledge they have acquired to benefit society.
The 773 graduates inaugurated in this procession consisted of 311 individuals from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), 312 individuals from the Faculty of Sharia and Law, and 150 individuals from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The procession was also attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Secretary of the Senate, Prof. Bambang Suryadi, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie, S.Ag., S.H., M.A., M.H., along with the academic community, an invited guest from the UIN Jakarta Alumni Association (IKALUIN), Dr. Yudhi Nugraha, S.Si., M.Biomed, and the families of the graduates.
In his welcoming speech, the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, emphasized that graduation is not the end of the journey, but rather a procession toward a new journey in life. He added that graduates should not solely focus on the academic achievements written on a piece of paper like a diploma, but must continue to develop and remain adaptable in facing challenges after completing their education.
“Convince yourselves that 'I am now starting a new life, I must change.' Therefore, you must grow, move, develop, and never stop. Do not feel complacent. You may experience the euphoria of successfully finishing your studies for a week, but not beyond that. You must change and develop,” he advised.
Prof. Asep also reminded the graduates not to be complacent or feel inferior about their current academic achievements, because upon graduating, he added, every graduate has an equal opportunity to start a new life.
He also encouraged the graduates to read history extensively and learn from the life journeys of great figures who possessed strong visions and integrity in facing changes. According to him, studying the lives of these great figures extensively can guide us in viewing life.
This message was reinforced by the Secretary of the UIN Jakarta Senate, Prof. Bambang Suryadi, M.A., Ph.D. He entrusted the graduates with three traits they need to carry with them after leaving the campus: to be innovative individuals, to have integrity, and to be able to make a positive impact on humanity.
Prof. Bambang noted that it is not enough for graduates to merely follow changes. They need the courage to create solutions and become a part of those changes. On the other hand, this capability must be accompanied by integrity so that their knowledge and expertise do not lose direction.
"Intelligence without integrity can lose its way. Expertise without morals can be misused. Remain honest when no one is watching, and remain trustworthy when holding power," he stated.
The importance of adapting to change was also conveyed by a UIN Jakarta alumnus, Dr. Yudi Nugraha, S.Si., M.Biomed., in his speech. He shared his academic and professional journey that took him from UIN Jakarta to being involved in research across various countries. Yudi believed that education does not always provide a person with a map of where to go, but it can serve as a compass when facing changes and uncertainty.
"Education does not always give us a map, but it precisely gives us a compass. And for me, UIN was my compass when I lost my way," he expressed.
Amidst AI disruption and the increasingly massive development of technology, he also advised the graduates not to view technological changes merely as a threat to jobs, but also as a challenge to continuously adapt and develop their skills.
The procession continued with the reading of the UIN Jakarta Rector's Decree (SK) Number 516 of 2026, which announced the six best graduates from each faculty. The six graduates designated as the best representatives were Fitriyani from the FAH Master's Program in Islamic Studies with a GPA of 3.81; Assyifa Rizkia Aulia from the FAH Bachelor's Program in Arabic Language and Literature with a GPA of 3.96; Elmira Hasibuan from the FSH Master's Program in Sharia Economic Law with a GPA of 3.79; Dewi Sekar Candrawati from the FSH Bachelor's Program in Constitutional Law with a GPA of 3.99; Farkhan Abdurochim Al Farauq from the FISIP Master's Program in Sociology with a GPA of 3.90; and Farhan Nugraha from the FISIP Bachelor's Program in Political Science with a GPA of 3.93.
The series of proceedings then continued with the handover of the alumni book, the moving of the tassel by the dean, and the handing over of diplomas to the graduates. Afterward, the university awarded certificates to the best graduates and the best theses, followed by the Scholar's Pledge (Prasetia Sarjana) and the UIN Hymn.
The Open Senate Session was then closed and concluded with the singing of the song 'Bagimu Negeri' and a group photo session.
After the official graduation procession, the representative of the graduates, Dewi Sekar Candrawati, expressed her concern regarding the ongoing humanitarian conflict in Papua through an oration. In her speech, the graduate representative called for an end to violence, the protection of civilians, the acceleration of peace dialogues, the fulfillment of basic rights for the community and refugees, as well as development that respects the customary rights of the Papuan people.
“Papua is us, humanity is our breath, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is our shared home forever,” said Sekar.
This call was then followed by the reading of a statement of stance from the graduates emphasizing the importance of protecting human lives, a humanitarian pause and dialogue, the fulfillment of civil rights and the basic needs of the community, as well as prosperity that respects customary rights.
