Concluding the 69th Anniversary Community Service Series, UIN Jakarta Hosts Free Mammogram Screenings
Bojongsari, UIN Online News – The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, in collaboration with the Indonesian Breast Cancer Foundation (YKPI), the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA), and the UIN Jakarta Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), hosted free mammogram screenings for women as part of UIN Jakarta’s 69th Anniversary celebrations.
Held on Friday (August 21, 2026) at the UIN Jakarta Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Building, the event was attended by 50 participants from the UIN Jakarta extended academic community. The screening program serves as a promotional and preventive measure to raise awareness among women about the vital importance of early breast cancer detection.
Key figures in attendance included the Coordinator of the 69th Anniversary Community Service Series, dr. Marita Fadhilah, Dr.Med.Sc., MARS; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS; Vice Chairwoman II of YKPI, Titien Pamudji; as well as university leadership and screening participants.
In his opening remarks, Dean Achmad Zaki emphasized that the mammogram screening was not merely a ceremonial anniversary event, but a concrete demonstration of the university's contribution to public health.
“This morning’s activity goes beyond ceremony; it delivers direct health benefits to the community, particularly to women,” said Achmad Zaki.
He noted that prioritizing women’s health is increasingly critical given their strategic role within families, communities, and national development. Consequently, efforts to safeguard women's health must be carried out continuously.
He further explained that breast cancer remains a major public health concern, with one of the primary challenges being that cases are still frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage.
“Too often, we see cases that have already metastasized by the time patients seek examination. This underscores the urgency of raising awareness and pursuing early detection,” he explained.
Dean Achmad Zaki added that routine health screenings are crucial because individuals may feel perfectly healthy while unknowingly harboring an underlying condition. Therefore, the mammogram screening aims to encourage women to take a more proactive approach to their personal health.
“Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Early detection is vital for preserving one’s quality of life,” he advised.
He also stressed that maintaining health is a fundamental human responsibility in safeguarding the gift of life—a principle aligned with UIN Jakarta’s identity as an institution that integrates academic excellence with Islamic values.
“Every effort made to protect life and health forms an essential part of our core responsibility as human beings,” he remarked.
Collaborating to Expand Women's Health Education
In her remarks, YKPI Vice Chairwoman II Titien Pamudji highlighted the necessity of cross-sector collaboration to elevate public awareness surrounding breast cancer. The partnership between YKPI and UIN Jakarta—through FK, PSGA, and DWP—is envisioned not as a one-off screening event, but as an evolving movement toward sustained education and early detection.
Participants at the event received screenings conducted inside YKPI’s mobile mammography unit. Beyond the medical procedures, attendees received educational sessions on recognizing breast health signs and the importance of undergoing regular check-ups.
For UIN Jakarta, the initiative reinforces the university's commitment to delivering direct societal impact through its community service agenda.
Concluding the 69th Anniversary Community Service Series
The free mammogram screening marked the grand finale of the 69th Anniversary Community Service Series organized by FK UIN Jakarta alongside its strategic partners.
Prior to this event, the service initiative had successfully delivered a free mass circumcision for 100 children at UIN Jakarta Hospital, free HPV education and cervical cancer screenings for 70 participants at RSSH, and free general health check-ups for 100 individuals at UIN Jakarta's Madya Hall.
“This concludes our Anniversary Community Service Series—ranging from the mass circumcision of 100 children, HPV education and screenings for 70 participants, general health check-ups for 100 individuals, to free mammograms for 50 women. May these efforts prove meaningful and blessed,” Achmad Zaki concluded.
This series of events reflects UIN Jakarta’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its contribution to public health. Through inter-unit and inter-institutional collaboration, the anniversary celebration served not only as a landmark for the university's journey, but also as an actionable platform for community welfare.
