Communication and Information Minister invites Students to Fight Hoaxes
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – Communication and Information Minister of Indonesia Rudiantara invites students to fight hoaxes. Students must use social media wisely and correctly so as not to cause slander and ghibah. That was said by Rudiantara after giving a speech at the national seminar entitled "Menjadikan Media Sebagai Alat Pemersatu Bangsa, Sebagai Bentuk Implementasi Nilai-nilai Pancasila " at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Monday (09/09/2019).
“Students must use social media positively. If there is incorrect information (hoaxes), please explain that the information is incorrect. Students must be proactive,” he said.
According to Rudiantara, Islam teaches that everyone should not do ghibah (talking about the disgrace of others), namimah (pit against), and slandering.
Therefore, he continues, Islamic students must be able to deliver the correct information. Fighting hoaxes is a shared obligation so that people are not consumed by negative information that is not necessarily true and can be accounted for.
Rudiantara also said, students must disseminate soothing information, both on social media and the internet. Moreover, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) itself has preached how Muslims should use social media (muamalah social media).
“I also hope that many students, especially at UIN Jakarta, to constantly disseminate correct information and counter any negative issues on social media,” he said.
For information, in addition to Rudiantara, this event also presented several speakers, such as Agung Suprio (Chairman of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission), Najwa Shihab (Founder of Narasi TV), Muhammad Iqbal (Head of Public Relations of the National Police Headquarters), Muzzakir Husain (Berita Satu Deputy Chief Editor), and Abdul Manan (Chairman of the Independent Journalists Alliance). Also present in the event, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis. (usa/ns)
