Committed to Preventing Sexual Violence, UIN Jakarta's Center for Gender and Child Studies Holds Workshop on Gender and Child Issues in Academic Writing

Jakarta, UIN Online News — Demonstrating its commitment to strengthening gender perspectives and preventing sexual violence on campus, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta organized the "Scientific Writing Workshop on Gender and Child Issues" through its Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA). The three-day workshop was held at Hotel ADIA Suites from 14–16 April 2026 as part of the university's ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and foster a safe academic environment.

The event was attended by Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Head of PSGA Dr. Hj. Wiwi Sajaroh, M.Ag., and several distinguished experts in gender and child studies, including Dr. Nur Rofiah, Bil. Uzm., Melinda Aprilyanti, S.H., M.Ag., KUML., Ahmad Hamdani, M.Si.P., C.P.S., and Diahhadi Setyonaluri, Ph.D.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Hj. Wiwi Sajaroh emphasized that the workshop forms part of PSGA's long-term commitment to preventing sexual violence while strengthening gender awareness throughout higher education.

“This workshop is part of our ongoing efforts to prevent sexual violence on campus while promoting a stronger gender perspective across university life. Every academic institution should embrace gender-sensitive approaches in all aspects of its activities, and this is something we must continue to advance together,” she said.

She further explained that the workshop was designed not only for members of the UIN Jakarta academic community but also for participants from other universities to strengthen institutional collaboration and academic networks. Representatives from the Institute of Qur'anic Sciences (IIQ), Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ), and National Development University (UPN) also took part in the program.

On the opening day, Dr. Nur Rofiah, lecturer at PTIQ and founder of Ngaji KGI (Islamic Gender Justice), delivered a keynote presentation on gender from an Islamic perspective. She stressed the importance of understanding Islamic teachings in a comprehensive and contextual manner.

“Islam fundamentally upholds justice, including justice in gender relations. Therefore, religious understanding should promote fairness and benefit for everyone,” she explained.

Beyond serving as a forum for academic discussion, the workshop aims to strengthen scholarly literacy on gender and child-related issues through scientific writing. It is expected to encourage the production of critical academic research that responds to contemporary challenges surrounding gender equality, child protection, and sexual violence in higher education.

PSGA UIN Jakarta regularly organizes similar programs as part of the university's broader commitment to gender mainstreaming across academic and institutional life. Through this three-day workshop, participants are expected to enhance both their awareness and academic capacity to examine gender issues critically, scientifically, and from the perspective of justice and inclusivity.
