Commemorating International Day of Persons with Disabilities, UIN Jakarta Hosts International Workshop

Mahmud Yunus Theater, UIN News Online — In commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a workshop on Monday (2/12/2024). This activity reflects UIN Jakarta's commitment in creating a disability-friendly campus environment, demonstrated through the provision of facilities that support the needs of people with disabilities.

UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., was present to open the event and expressed his support for programs that prioritize the sustainability of inclusivity on campus. In his speech, Prof. Asep emphasized the importance of the role of higher education in supporting people with disabilities to be empowered and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“UIN Jakarta is committed to becoming an inclusive and friendly campus for people with disabilities. We believe that diversity, including disability, is an important part of building a just and sustainable society. The facilities and programs we provide are a tangible form of this commitment,” he said. 

The event was also attended by a number of important figures, such as Professor of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Keguruan (FITK), Prof. Siti Nurul Azkiyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Chair of CSSN, Dr. Arif Subhan, M.A..

With the theme “Uniting in Action to Save and Achieve SDGs for, with, and by Persons with Disabilities,” this event was designed to support the empowerment of persons with disabilities through cross-sector collaboration.

Some of the speakers presented at this event included Umar Syaroni, M.Med.Kom., a candidate from the University of Sydney, and Rayhan Naufaldi Hidayat, S.H., M.H., an alumnus of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Both speakers shared their insights and experiences in advocating for disability rights and the importance of the active role of persons with disabilities in development.

This activity is expected to strengthen UIN Jakarta's commitment to continue supporting inclusivity and creating positive changes for society, especially for people with disabilities.
