Commemorating Environment Day, UIN Jakarta Distributes Electric Bicycles
UIN Jakarta, UIN Online News – In commemoration of World Environment Day, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta distributed electric bicycles to all faculties and units within the campus environment. The event took place on Thursday (5/6) at the AAKK Meeting Lounge and was attended by university leadership, deans, and heads of work units.
UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA., Ph.D., symbolically handed over the electric bicycle units named SALUT (Sepeda Listrik UIN Jakarta). Each faculty and unit received between three to four electric bicycle units, adjusted to their respective needs.
“We hope these environmentally friendly vehicles can support campus activities and serve as an important reminder of the importance of preserving the earth. We also urge all academic staff to continue improving their literacy in waste management and fostering a green campus spirit in their respective work environments,” he stated.
After the symbolic ceremony at the AAKK Lounge, all invited guests moved to the front yard of the Harun Nasution Auditorium Building. At this location, the electric bicycle units were directly handed over to each faculty and unit representative, accompanied by a test ride of the electric bicycles by the attending leaders and invited guests.
This initiative is part of UIN Jakarta's commitment to implementing the Green Campus program, which emphasizes the importance of environmental sustainability on campus. The 'SALUT' electric bicycles are designed to be an environmentally friendly and efficient transportation alternative for the campus.
The Head of UIN Jakarta's Green Campus Task Force Team, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, M.Si., affirmed that the distribution of these electric bicycles is purely a form of inter-institutional cooperation with no political agenda.
“These electric bicycles are a grant from DPR members who support our initiative to build a green campus. There is absolutely no political element. This is purely a form of concern for the environment and the future of the younger generation,” she explained.
This year's Earth Day commemoration at the UIN Jakarta campus is expected to strengthen the academic community's awareness of environmental preservation. In addition to distributing electric bicycles, the campus also continues to promote education related to waste sorting, carbon emission reduction, and the use of renewable energy.
With the presence of 'SALUT' electric bicycles, UIN Jakarta hopes that the mobility of the academic community will become more efficient, emission-free, and serve as a tangible example of implementing sustainability values in the higher education environment.
