Central Library of UIN Jakarta Holds Information Literacy and Turnitin workshop

CentraL Library, UIN News Online – Central library of UIN Jakarta holds information literacy and turnitin workshop on Tuesday (03/22/2022). This workshop is expected to support the acceleration of academic writing and journal publications among lecturers, researchers, and students at UIN Jakarta.

The workshop, which was attended by hundreds of lecturers, researchers, and students from various faculties, was opened directly by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of UIN Jakarta Zulkifli and accompanied by the Head of the Central Library of UIN Jakarta Amrullah Hasbana.

The training itself presented two resource persons, they are Muhammad Nur Rianto Al Arif and Nisrina Rifa Salma. Al Arif is the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UIN Jakarta as well as Editor in Chief of the Etikonomy Journal, while Nisrina is a Training & Product Specialist from Buana Group company.

In his presentation, Al Arif emphasized the importance of writing journal articles for the academic community. This is an indicator of the development of a scientific research tradition. Therefore, he encourages this tradition as a follow-up activity for individual research, especially for lecturers.

As a lecturer with a lot of experience in writing and managing journals, Al Arif then presented more techniques for writing research results into journal articles and journal publication management. He also encourages collaboration between lecturers and students.

However, Al Arif also emphasized the importance of writers complying with article writing ethics as a form of non-negotiable integrity “Professors in the West don't even want their names added as one of the contributor, unless they have made minimal contributions to methodological enrichment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nisrina revealed, the language barrier that researchers usually encounter in publishing their articles in international journals is now no longer an obstacle. According to Nisrina, many applications have been developed to ease writers in dealing with these obstacles.

In addition to the ability to translate language, she explained, an application was also developed to check the grammar rules. However, Nisrina advised researchers to not rely on the application. The reason is, the characteristics of academic language have its own peculiarities. (zm/usa)
