Bridging Cairo and Indonesia: Global Peace Foundation from Egypt Eyes Strategic Partnership with UIN Jakarta

RECTORATE BUILDING, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues to solidify its role in global diplomacy by hosting a high-level delegation from the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), Egypt. The delegation was received at the Main Meeting Room on Wednesday (4/29/2026), marking a significant step in expanding international peace networks within Southeast Asia.

Led by Dr. Magdy Tantawy, Senior Editor of Egypt’s Al Gomhuria newspaper and Director-General of the Global Peace Foundation, the mission aims to establish Indonesia as a primary hub for global peace initiatives in the region.

An Academic Responsibility for Global Security

Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, Ph.D., alongside Vice Rector for Cooperation Din Wahid, Ph.D., and former Rector Prof. Dr. Amany Lubis, welcomed the group. Prof. Munhanif, a Professor of Political Science, emphasized that the meeting transcends mere formality; it is a vital academic contribution to the global Islamic intellectual discourse.

"We are honored to host such a distinguished group of intellectuals and public figures. It is clear that the diplomatic and academic circles in Egypt possess a profound understanding of today’s complex global security landscape," Prof. Munhanif stated.

He further noted that as a leading institution under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, UIN Jakarta bears a moral responsibility to provide scholarly solutions to global crises through dialogue and cross-border research.

Jakarta as the New Hub for Global Peace

The GPF, currently headquartered in Cairo with a presence spanning Canada, Europe, and North Africa, expressed its intention to plant deep roots in Indonesia. Reda Abdussalam, a member of the delegation, revealed ambitious plans to establish Jakarta as their regional headquarters.

“We are currently finalizing the legal formalities to officially launch our Indonesian branch. Indonesia was chosen as our strategic partner due to its society’s deep-seated commitment to moral values, tolerance, and religious harmony,” Abdussalam explained.

A Legacy of Peace Initiatives

This visit builds upon UIN Jakarta’s momentum from late 2025, when the university, alongside three other State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN), initiated a global peace forum. That forum provided strategic diplomatic recommendations to the Indonesian government and set a collaborative agenda for Islamic institutions nationwide.

For UIN Jakarta, this partnership reinforces its commitment to Educational Diplomacy. By aligning with Egyptian counterparts, the university aims to promote an inclusive brand of Islam that serves as a cornerstone for international stability.
