Boosting Academic Excellence: UIN Jakarta's FGD on Optimalizing Journal Management

Diorama Room, UIN Online News — The Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the topic of "Optimizing Journal Management: Accreditation Challenges and Research Opportunities in the Media and Public Relations Field", which took place on Wednesday (15/10/2025). The event was held in the Diorama Room on the ground floor of Auditorium Harun Nasution and featured three experts on journal management and was attended by editorial managers from UIN Jakarta and seventh-semester students preparing their thesis proposals.

Dr. Deden Mauli Darajat, S.Sos.I., M.Sc., the Head of PIH, in his introduction, stated that UIN Jakarta's social media alone is not enough. WIth the FGD was organized, it will boost these academic achievements beyond annual reports.

Currently, PIH is publishing a journal named Relations: Journal of Media Studies and Public Relations which has been in circulation since 2024. The journal serves as a platform for academic collaboration and partners, particularly in the field of communication, media studies, and public relations.

"We aim to make these achievements not just annual reports but scholarly works instead, so they can be referenced by anyone, including PR professionals or researchers working within the context of communication," he explained.

Prof. Amelia Fauzia Ph.D., Chairman of the Research and Community Service Board (LP2M), in her welcome speech, stated that the production of Journal Relations presented a significant opportunity for the PR team due to the abundant data and achievements contained.

"Because nowadays, data means everything, it's a shame if this information related to human relations isn't utilized further. Therefore, this presents a huge opportunity for the Public Relations team to produce Journal Relations," she stated.

The event was moderated by Dr. Fauziah Muslimah, M.I.Kom., lecturer at the Faculty of Da'wa and Communication Studies (FDIKOM) and coordinator of PIH, who began with a presentation on journal management in the digital era, particularly the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic writing.

"Despite its rapid learning curve, please pay attention to the use of AI today due to ethical concerns about plagiarism, such as bold font, em dash, or repeated words appearing in paragraphs without proper citation," she warned.

Achmad Maulana Sirojjudin, M.Si., a lecturer at the FDIKOM who also oversees journal management, then discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with conducting research in media and communication during the digital era.

"My hope is that after this event, there will be advancements in research within the field of public relations, so that Journal Relations can achieve SINTA 1 accreditation," he expressed.

Finally, a presentation on diction in academic writing, systematic structure, ethics of publication, and counter-plagiarism was given by Nor Islafatun, M. Hum., a lecturer from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities which is part of the Research and Publication Center.

"I hope that after attending today's FGD, participants will find it easier to write academic articles, applying strategies such as key words, creative writing, and paraphrasing," she concluded.

The organization of this FGD was intended to develop scholarly works on various achievements. Through this event, UIN Jakarta will continue to advance and provide world-class scientific papers.
