Bank Indonesia Banten-UIN Jakarta Strengthens Commitment to Islamic Economy Development at Shafara and Digiwara 2026
South Tangerang, UIN News Online — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s Islamic economic ecosystem through its participation in Shafara and Digiwara 2026, a collaborative initiative organized by Bank Indonesia Banten Province. The event, held at Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall on Sunday (May 24, 2026), brought together government institutions, financial stakeholders, academics, and community organizations to promote Islamic economic growth and the digital transformation of Sharia-based financial services.
Featuring a wide range of activities, from seminars and public discussions to QRIS socialization programs for mosques, Islamic finance literacy campaigns, and exhibitions by strategic partners, the event served as a platform to strengthen public awareness and engagement in the rapidly growing halal economy.
As one of Indonesia’s leading Islamic universities, UIN Jakarta took part through an interactive exhibition booth highlighting the university’s contributions to Islamic economics, halal industry development, and Sharia financial literacy. The university’s presence underscored the important role of higher education institutions in supporting the national agenda of building a resilient and inclusive Islamic economic ecosystem.
The event was attended by Banten Governor Andra Soni, who emphasized the significant progress achieved by the province in developing key sectors of the Islamic economy, including halal food production, Muslim fashion, Islamic boarding schools, and Sharia-compliant financial services.
“This momentum represents a strategic opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises as well as the halal industry, encouraging greater innovation and enabling them to compete on both national and global stages,” he said.
In addition to participating in the exhibition, UIN Jakarta contributed to several event programs designed to engage younger generations. Among them was the Clash of Syaria competition, which provided an educational and interactive platform for youth to deepen their understanding of Islamic economics and finance.
The university’s contribution was further reflected through the achievement of Elsa Balqis, a UIN Jakarta alumna who was selected as Halal Ambassador 2026 in a program initiated by Bank Indonesia Banten. Her appointment highlighted the growing role of UIN Jakarta graduates in promoting halal literacy and supporting the expansion of Indonesia’s halal industry.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Elsa emphasized the importance of youth participation in strengthening the future of Islamic economics.
“I am honored to serve as Halal Ambassador 2026. I hope this initiative inspires more young people to become actively involved in advancing the halal industry and Islamic economic development in Indonesia,” she said.
She also noted that building a strong Islamic economic ecosystem requires collaboration among various stakeholders, including government institutions, financial sectors, educational institutions, and the younger generation.
The university’s commitment to Islamic economic development extends beyond public engagement activities. Through its academic programs, UIN Jakarta continues to cultivate expertise and produce future leaders in the field of Islamic economics and finance.
The Faculty of Sharia and Law offers undergraduate and master’s programs in Sharia Economic Law, while the Faculty of Economics and Business provides undergraduate and master’s programs in Islamic Economics, as well as bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in Islamic Banking. These programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the evolving landscape of Islamic finance and halal business.
UIN Jakarta’s contribution is further strengthened by its distinguished academics and professors specializing in Islamic economics. Beyond their roles as educators and researchers, many of them actively serve as Sharia supervisory board members and advisors in various Islamic financial institutions across Indonesia, bringing academic insights into real-world industry practice.
