Backed by Cabinet Ministers, UIN Jakarta Deploys Nearly Five Thousand Students for Global and Regional Civic Missions Toward SDGs
JAKARTA, UIN Online News – Demonstrating massive academic mobilization for sustainable development, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially deployed 4,951 student researchers across 326 cohorts for the 2026 Regular, Thematic, and International Civic Missions (KKN) on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Convened at the Harun Nasution Auditorium under the central theme "Impactful Civic Missions for Sustainable Regional Development: University, Government, and Community Synergies Toward SDGs," the ceremony received top-level state endorsement.
The official send-off was attended by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Dr. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Deputy Minister of Industry H. Faisol Riza, M.B.A., UIN Jakarta Rector Professor Asep Saepudin Jahar, Ph.D., alongside LP2M Chair Professor Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D.
Addressing the thousands of student delegates, UIN Jakarta Rector Professor Asep Saepudin Jahar emphasized that student civic missions must deliver tangible, lasting local solutions while upholding institutional ethics.
"Civic missions require action-oriented academic rigor," Rector Jahar stated. "Document your empirical field observations, build sustainable collaborations with regional governments, and ensure that local communities can independently maintain your initiatives long after your deployment concludes."
Reinforcing this vision, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza urged participants to leverage localized natural resources through appropriate technological innovations, citing how grassroots creativity can spark rural economic transformation.
Detailing the expansive operational scope, Chair of the Research and Community Engagement Institute (LP2M) Professor Amelia Fauzia revealed that the 2026 Civic Missions extend far beyond regional campus boundaries to achieve global reach.

Regional and Indigenous Placements: Regular cohorts are deployed across Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and South Tangerang, while specialized thematic teams focus on indigenous communities including the Baduy, Karangturi, and Babau regions.

International Civic Missions: Select international cohorts will execute specialized civic missions across Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Australia.
Professor Amelia reminded the deployed scholars that community engagement demands deep humility, religious moderation, and collaborative ethics over purely academic metrics.
By deploying nearly 5,000 scholars into structured regional and international civic missions, UIN Jakarta proves that higher education institutions serve as active catalysts for sustainable development, civic empowerment, and international community resilience.
