Ananda Rizky Marpaung, UIN Jakarta Alumnus of Medical Graduate Who Serves as Military Doctor

UIN Online News — Alumni of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continue to make significant contributions across various fields of service, including health and national defense. One inspiring example is First Lieutenant CKM Dr. Ananda Rizky Marpaung, a graduate of UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Medicine, Class of 2012, who now serves as a military doctor in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) for the Military Health Corps (CKM).

Ananda’s journey began during his medical studies at UIN Jakarta, culminating in his medical degree in 2018. After completing his internship program in 2019, he chose an uncommon path for most young doctors. Instead of pursuing a hospital career or private practice, he took a bold step by joining the Indonesian Army’s Career Officer School (SEPA PK) selection in 2020. This decision marked the beginning of his career as a military medical officer.

His first assignment at the 310th Infantry Battalion Kidang Kencana served as a training ground. There, he learned that being a military doctor requires not only medical expertise but also courage, physical readiness, and mental resilience. The true test came when he was deployed for a 15-month combat operation in Papua. This mission tested his patience and perseverance. For his dedication, he and his unit received recognition from a TNI Commander.

Ananda’s service extended further when, in July 2023, he was entrusted to serve as the Indonesian contingent doctor during the Bastille Day Military Parade in France. This moment was not only a personal honor but also proof that UIN Jakarta alumni can perform and contribute on the international stage.

Since 2023, Ananda has been serving as the Head of the TNI Health Detachment in Sukabumi. For him, being a military doctor is a form of complete service—a combination of medical expertise and the responsibility to care for soldiers and their families. The Islamic values he learned at UIN Jakarta—sincerity, discipline, and responsibility—remain guiding principles in every assignment.

Dr. Ananda Rizky Marpaung’s story is not just one of a career journey but also of the courage to make bold life choices. From classrooms to combat zones, from the deep forest of Papua to the treacherous hills of France, he has proven that UIN Jakarta alumni can make a wide impact and inspire many.

Most recently, on Sunday (August 24, 2025), Dr. Ananda Rizky Marpaung delivered a scientific oration at the 137th Graduation Senate Open Session of UIN Jakarta, held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium. On that occasion, he shared a meaningful message with the graduates:

“The journey after graduation is not always smooth. There will be times of loss, disappointment, and even confinement. But it is the discipline to small things that will lead us to greater responsibilities,” he shared.

He also reminded graduates not to underestimate themselves when facing new challenges:

“In life, we are often considered too small, too young, or inexperienced. But no one truly knows where life’s journey will take us. Therefore, never doubt yourself,” he emphasized.

His message serves as a valuable motivation for both students and alumni of UIN Jakarta, encouraging them to remain faithful to the process, persevere through challenges, and believe that every step can lead to greater opportunities. Dr. Ananda’s presence at the graduation ceremony offered a real-life example of how campus values can become a foundation for meaningful service to the nation and society.
