Rectorate, UIN News Online – Muhammad Isnur, an alumnus of UIN Jakarta, was elected as Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) for the 2022-2026 period, Wednesday (12/01/2021). Isnur's election is expected to increase the contribution of UIN Jakarta alumni in the realm of law and human rights in Indonesia.

Based on UIN News Online records, Isnur was elected by winning 18 votes or 62.1% of the voters. Another candidate, Era Purnama Sari, only won 34.5% of the vote. Meanwhile, the abstention vote was 3.4%.

Isnur continued the leadership of YLBHI replacing Asfinawati who had led YLBI since 2017.

After being elected as the leader of YLBHI, Isnur expressed his readiness to continue YLBHI's programs and face the current challenges. According to Isnur, the challenges ahead are very difficult because Indonesia needs to strengthen democracy in the country.

“I am ready to face various challenges ahead. Of course, we will face a difficult situation in the future, where freedom of expression will be increasingly curtailed,” said Isnur.

Before becoming the chairman of YLBHI, Isnur was the Chair of Advocacy at the institution. He has been vocal about freedom of expression and has criticized the job creation law several times and the work of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Isnur is an alumnus of the Faculty of Sharia and Law who completed his undergraduate studies in 2007. He wrote his undergraduate thesis titled 'Peradilan Agama dan Kewenangan Menangani Sengketa Ekonomi Syariah: Studi Kritis Terhadap UU Nomor 3 Tahun 2006 tentang Perubahan atas UU Nomor Tahun 1989 tentang Peradilan Agama' under the supervision of Professor Muhammad Amin Suma.

Separately, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis, congratulated Isnur for his work and dedication until he was elected as the chairman of YLBHI. She hopes that Isnur's election will further strengthen UIN Jakarta's contribution to law enforcement and human rights in the country. (zm/usa)
