Alumni of UIN Jakarta: Softskills and Hardskills are Important in the World of Work
Rectorate, UIN News online – Alumni of FITK (Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training) UIN Jakarta, as well as Founder and President Director of PT. Multi Hokkindo Adji, Nurul Yaqin, gave directions to students in a webinar on soft skills and hard skills introduction for prospective alumni, entitled "Enterpreneurship Developing Basic Instinct for Beginners", Tuesday (08/31/2021).
Present in the event, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Arief Subhan, Head of Student Affairs and Alumni division Ikhwan and Adi Raharjo as moderator.
Arief Subhan in his speech said that this activity can help UIN Jakarta alumni when they enter the world of work. “Students need to develop two types of skills in entering the world of work. Hard skills contain knowledge that leads to an educational background, while soft skills are ways to control oneself and make strategic decisions,” he said.
Nurul Yaqin, who has studied the business world, especially marketing since 1992, emphasized that new students or alumni do not need to focus on theory or article quotes. According to Nurul Yaqin, one's success is not only built on a foundation of knowledge that comes from reading and playing a role. The main factor that can build success is the basic instinct as a worker combined with the animal instinct to survive.
“In entering the world of work, those who stick to theory will lose their chances of success. However, students who are able to develop their hard skills and soft skills can add opportunities. Among them are; educational background, loyalty to education, ability to build good relationships, and being firm when making strategic decisions,” he said.
He also added, in preparing themselves as beginners in business, students need to learn animal instincts including; survival, focus and accuracy, good planning, teamwork, self-adjustment, able to survive under pressure, and courageous behaviour.
“These animal-like instinctive abilities can help in realizing a tough, unyielding business person, and good at solving problems,” he added.
Nurul Yaqin also mentioned several start-up businesses that are now well known. This example is expected to enable participants to realize their dreams of starting a business and becoming a successful businessman. (usa/sam/mf)
