Alumni of LESPA Continue Their Islamic Law Study in UIN Jakarta

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Three doctoral students from Afghanistan will attend lectures at Graduatwe School (SPs) of UIN Jakarta. They will study at UIN Jakarta through an academic cooperation program between UIN Jakarta, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Legal Education Support Program-Afghanistan (LESPA) at University of Washington (UW-LESPA).

This was conveyed by Head of Center for International Cooperation (CIC) UIN Jakarta Rachmat Baihaky MA. According to Rachmat, the acceptance of doctoral students is the result of the cooperation agreement between UIN Jakarta, the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Afghanistan. While the three students will take a study in the field of Islamic law. "Insha Allah, they will arrive this July,” he explained.

Rachmat explained that the three students of the doctoral program were formerly students of LESPA program, University of Washington. After completing their respective master's education at the university, they are assigned to continue their study of Islamic law field in UIN Jakarta doctoral program.

For information, is a collaborative effort of the United States Department of State (INL), the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education, and the Shari’a and Law and Political Science faculties at Afghan public universities. LESPA is implemented by the University of Washington School of Law and is currently funded into 2020. LESPA aims to strengthen legal institutions in Afghanistan by offering higher education opportunities to law professors and professionals who will become legal educators in the future.

Separately, Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada MA added that the acceptance of three Afghan doctoral students to study Islamic law in UIN Jakarta is the world's trust on the quality of higher education in UIN Jakarta. "The trust that we must pay by providing quality learning," he said.

Rector added that the acceptance of foreign students from various countries has a positive impact in academic and Islamic. Academically, the acceptance of foreign students learning is a trust and proof of the academic capacity of UIN Jakarta.

From the side of Islam, he continued, the acceptance of foreign students from various countries, especially in the postgraduate level, became an opportunity for UIN Jakarta to step on the ladder of Islamic study destinations globally. It proves that Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia take an important role in the development of contemporary Islamic studies. (usa)
