AICIS 2021 will discuss the reactualization of fiqh and public policy

Surakarta, UIN News Online – Hosted by UIN Surakarta, the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs held the 20th Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) titled “Islam in a Changing Global Context: Rethinking Fiqh Reactualization and Public Policy” on October 25-28, 2021.

Director General of Islamic Education M Ali Ramdhani said that the 20th AICIS will be opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Ma'ruf Amin on Monday, October 25, 2021. Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming are also scheduled to attend.

Ali Ramdhani appreciated this year's AICIS theme. He hopes that this discussion forum can provide theoretical and practical contributions in solving problems that are currently being faced by the nation, especially in responding to global changes. The AICIS event is expected to have an impact in strengthening the identity of Indonesian Islamic science which is a reference for world Islamic sciences.

“This theme was actually formulated to answer the dynamics Islamic world, as well as to take a closer look at the actualization of fiqh and public policies from an Islamic point of view in various issues such as pandemics, religious moderation, harmony, education governance, and other specific issues,” said Ali on Sunday (10/24/2021).

Meanwhile, the Director of Diktis Suyitno explained that this year's AICIS was held with several innovations that were responsive to the development of the era of digital supremacy. First, the activities are held virtually. “This is a very monumental moment for the AICIS,” he said.

Second, this time AICIS is enhanced with the presence of the AICIS One Touch application. With this application, panelists and participants will find it easy to attend conferences from anywhere through the devices they have in their hands.

“This innovation is a breakthrough made by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in organizing quality international forums that are adaptive to technological advances,” he added.

Head of Sub-Directorate for Academic Development M Syafii also added that the 20th AICIS will take place for four days from October 24-29, 2021 at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. The conference was attended by speakers from within and outside the country, and was divided into a Plenary session with the Invited Speakers and a parallel session with selected presenters.

“World interdisciplinary experts, and ministers are scheduled to attend several Plenary Sessions at the 20th AICIS event,” he said.

On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Surakarta Mudhofir said that AICIS always pays attention to essential and substantive goals in each of its implementations. According to Mudhofir, AICIS pays main attention to the consistency of academic quality, as well as strengthening collaboration between lecturers and researchers with intellectual networks of world leaders. Participants from the regions were given the widest possible access to take advantage of this forum.

“Participants from various Islamic universities and other institutions can maximize this important forum to strengthen their academic capacity,” he said. (usa/sam/mf)
