Ahead of 141st Graduation, STF UIN Jakarta Invites Prospective Alumni to Build Endowment Fund Through IDR 10,000 Wakaf
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – The Social Trust Fund (STF) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta invited prospective graduates of the 141st Graduation Ceremony to participate in the Alumni Service Waqf program through a monetary waqf of Rp10,000. The invitation was delivered by the Representative of the STF UIN Jakarta Waqf Division, H. Willy Oktaviano, Lc., M.A., during the Briefing for 141st Graduation Participants at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Thursday (03/09/2026), as an effort to strengthen the university's endowment fund.
The program was introduced through a presentation on the concept of cash waqf, its management, and the benefits of investment yields for students. The briefing session was also attended by Member of BAZNAS RI for Zakat, Infak, and Sedekah Collection and Mobilization as well as Secretary-General of IKALUIN Jakarta Dr. H. Rizaluddin Kurniawan, S.Ag., M.Si., CFRM.; Senior Professor and Special Staff to the Rector for Graduate Studies Development Prof. M. Zuhdi, M.Ed., Ph.D.; Deputy Director of the Graduate School Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, M.A.; Head of Academic Affairs and Acting Head of AAKK Bureau Rahmawati, S.Psi., M.M.; Head of the Center for Information and Public Relations Zaenal Muttaqin, S.Th.I., M.Ag.; and Head of the Admissions Center Rachmat Baihaqi, M.A., Ph.D.
In his presentation, Representative of the STF UIN Jakarta Waqf Division, H. Willy Oktaviano, Lc., M.A., explained that waqf operates on the principle of preserving the principal funds so that they remain perpetual, while the benefits used derive from the management yields or investment returns of those funds. Therefore, the cash waqf collected by STF is directed into an endowment fund whose benefits can continuously be developed to support educational needs at UIN Jakarta.
“Waqf is ra'sul mal, meaning its principal capital must be perpetual. Thus, for this cash waqf, it is the investment yield that will be utilized,” he explained.
He shared that STF UIN Jakarta has currently accumulated cash waqf funds totaling Rp3,007,312,275. These funds consist of perpetual cash waqf and term cash waqf. Approximately Rp1.25 billion of this amount constitutes term waqf used in accordance with the waqf period, while its investment returns are utilized to assist students through scholarships and bridging fund assistance.
“From its investment returns, we allocate funds every year to support scholarships as well as bridging loan assistance for students in need,” he said.
According to Willy, the benefits of STF waqf management have been directly felt by UIN Jakarta students since 2012. To date, scholarships and assistance distributed have reached approximately Rp2.9 billion, benefiting over 1,400 students. This achievement serves as a clear illustration that waqf management can deliver tangible and sustainable benefits for the academic community.
Consequently, STF introduced the Alumni Service Waqf with a nominal amount of Rp10,000 for prospective graduates. Willy expressed that this contribution serves as an expression of gratitude for the educational journey completed, while forming part of the alumni's effort to preserve the continuity of benefits for future generations of students. The collected funds will augment UIN Jakarta's endowment fund.
“InshaAllah, this waqf fund will remain perpetual and will grow the endowment fund for Universitas UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta,” he stated.
Willy explained that participation in the Alumni Service Waqf can be completed via QRIS provided by STF using mobile banking or e-wallets. During the occasion, he demonstrated a direct transaction to show that prospective alumni can participate with ease.
In addition to the Alumni Service Waqf, STF also conducts the Rp1,000 Per Week Cash Waqf Movement for the academic community across all faculties. Willy illustrated that if approximately 42,000 students participated with that nominal amount every week, the collected funds could theoretically reach Rp42 million per week to be developed as an endowment fund.
“If Rp1,000 per week comes from 42,000 students, we can generate 42 million per week. And that is a significant figure if we build it into an endowment fund,” he explained.
Willy emphasized that the sustainability of the program hinges on integrity in fund management and consistent participation from the academic community. As a nazir (waqf manager), STF is committed to managing the waqf funds with utmost responsibility so that the benefits continue to reach students in need.
“InshaAllah, we as nadzir will be responsible and trustworthy in managing these funds as best as possible, so that the benefits are felt by our peers and younger juniors who need them,” he concluded.
As part of the preparation leading up to the 141st Graduation, the Alumni Service Waqf positions alumni not merely as graduates completing their studies, but as an integral part of the alma mater's ongoing sustainability. Through a simple yet sustainably managed contribution, the alumni waqf is expected to strengthen UIN Jakarta's endowment fund while safeguarding its utility for students requiring assistance in the future.
