660 FITK UIN Jakarta Prospective Alumni Officially Dispatched; Lukman Hakim Saifuddin Reminds Teaching Is a Vocation of Service
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2014–2019 period, Dr. H.C. Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, attended as a keynote speaker at the Alumni Send-Off and Judiciary Ceremony for the 141st Graduation of the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FITK) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The event took place at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Jakarta, Tuesday (01/09/2026).
In addition to inviting the Minister of Religious Affairs for the 2014–2019 period, Dr. H.C. Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, this judiciary event was also attended by Vice Rector II for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A., Dean of FITK UIN Jakarta, Prof. Siti Nurul Azkiyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., the board of vice deans, as well as department chairs and secretaries across FITK UIN Jakarta.
In his presentation, Dr. H.C. Lukman Hakim Saifuddin—who received an Honorary Doctorate degree from UIN Jakarta—emphasized that every individual is essentially a teacher and educator, at least for oneself and one's immediate surroundings. Therefore, the processes of teaching and learning cannot be separated.
“Each of us is essentially an instructor and an educator, at least for ourselves and our immediate surroundings. Therefore, every teacher is required to continually learn. Teaching and learning are a unified whole. Every act of teaching demands learning. Likewise, everything we learn must be practiced and taught to others,” he said.
He also added that the world of education feels alive and meaningful when driven by a love for knowledge and the chosen profession. According to him, knowledge must not remain merely theoretical discourse stored internally.
“In learning and teaching, the field we pursue must be one we truly enjoy. The activities we engage in must be rooted in love. For it is love that serves as an unmatched energy in our work, including in seeking and disseminating knowledge,” he stated.
To inspire the graduates, Lukman shared a poignant story previously published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs during his tenure. He recounted the dedication of a madrasah teacher in a remote area who swam a distance of one mile using only one hand to keep his teaching attire dry, ensuring he could accompany his students in the archipelago.
“This teacher has provided extraordinary inspiration for us, especially prospective teachers, to continuously spread the spirit of sacrifice and sincerity for education. Becoming a teacher is not merely practicing a profession, but answering a calling of service,” Lukman asserted.
Additionally, Vice Rector II for General Administration at UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A., commended the achievements of the 660 prospective FITK alumni officially sent off in this judiciary ceremony. The graduating class comprises two doctoral graduates, 44 master's graduates, and 614 bachelor's graduates across 18 study programs.
“The number 660 is not just a statistic. Behind it lie 660 journeys, 660 struggles, 660 supporting families, and God willing, 660 contributions to be offered to society. I invite the alumni to view today not as the end of a journey, but as the beginning of a broader sphere of service,” he expressed.
He stressed that the indicator of an educator's success extends beyond the mere transfer of knowledge, focusing instead on how a teacher serves as a moral role model and pillar of character in society.
“A teacher does not merely teach what students must know, but also sets an example of how knowledge is applied, how differences are respected, how problems are resolved, and how life is lived with full responsibility,” he added.
Through the momentum of this 141st Alumni Send-Off and Judiciary Ceremony, FITK UIN Jakarta hopes that alumni—particularly prospective educators—can carry the messages of exemplary leadership and high dedication shared by Lukman Hakim Saifuddin as valuable assets in spreading tangible benefits to the wider public.
For information regarding the 141st Graduation Ceremony of UIN Jakarta, prospective graduates are scheduled to attend the Graduate Orientation Session on Thursday (3/9/2026) at 07:00–10:00 WIB. The agenda features a motivation session on higher education and career challenges, socialization of postgraduate master's and doctoral scholarship programs, and a scholarship presentation from BAZNAS Pusat, followed by the dress rehearsal at 10:00–12:00 WIB.
The 141st Graduation Ceremony of UIN Jakarta is divided into two phases. The first phase takes place on Saturday (5/9/2026) for the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FITK), Faculty of Islamic Studies (FDI), and the Graduate School (SPs), continuing on Sunday (6/9/2026) for the Faculty of Theology (FU), Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), and Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).
Meanwhile, the second phase will be held on Saturday (12/9/2026) for the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM), Faculty of Psychology, and Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). The graduation series concludes on Sunday (13/9/2026) with the Faculty of Humanities (FAH), Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH), and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
