455 New Students at UIN Jakarta Awarded KIP Kuliah Scholarships for 2026
Jakarta, Berita UIN Online — A total of 455 new students at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta have been designated as recipients of the Indonesia Smart College Card (Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah, or KIP Kuliah) programme for the 2026 fiscal year. They are among 21,259 students newly admitted to State Religious Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Negeri, or PTKN) who have been awarded KIP Kuliah scholarships by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The recipients were designated under Decree No. 428 of 2026 issued by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs concerning the designation of new student recipients of the KIP Kuliah programme at State Religious Higher Education Institutions for the 2026 fiscal year (View the decree). The decree was issued in Jakarta on 6 October 2026 and signed by the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Kamaruddin Amin.
Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., welcomed the designation of the 455 new students as KIP Kuliah scholarship recipients. He said the programme provides an opportunity for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education, develop their potential and build a better future.
The Rector expressed his hope that scholarship recipients would make the most of the assistance responsibly. He also encouraged them to remain enthusiastic about their studies, strive for academic excellence and complete their degrees on time.
He added that financial assistance should be accompanied by a strong commitment to learning and personal development. “I hope scholarship recipients will not only achieve academic success, but also grow into graduates who demonstrate integrity and independence and make a meaningful contribution to society, the nation and the country,” he said.
The considerations set out in Ministry of Religious Affairs Secretary-General Decree No. 428 of 2026 state that KIP Kuliah assistance is intended for students who face economic hardship but demonstrate strong academic potential, enabling them to pursue higher education and graduate on time. The names of the recipients are listed in an annex that forms an integral part of the decree.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs’ KIP Kuliah programme targets graduates of Islamic senior secondary schools (Madrasah Aliyah or MA), Islamic vocational secondary schools (Madrasah Aliyah Kejuruan or MAK), general senior secondary schools (SMA), vocational secondary schools (SMK) and equivalent institutions. It supports students from economically disadvantaged families who have strong academic potential and wish to continue their studies at religious higher education institutions.
The programme is one of the Government’s initiatives to widen access to higher education and promote more equitable learning opportunities.
In 2026, the Ministry of Religious Affairs allocated IDR 1.6 trillion to the KIP Kuliah programme for students at religious higher education institutions. The programme covers institutions serving Muslim, Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist and Confucian communities.
According to the programme data provided, the 2026 intake involves 1,482 higher education institutions across 35 provinces, comprising 97 state religious higher education institutions and 1,385 private religious higher education institutions. Of the newly admitted students designated as recipients at state religious higher education institutions, 21,259 have been awarded assistance under the programme.
In general, KIP Kuliah provides assistance towards tuition fees and living expenses, subject to the applicable programme regulations. Tuition assistance supports students’ academic costs, while living allowances help cover day-to-day expenses, including accommodation, books and transport.
The amount of assistance and the arrangements for its disbursement are governed by the regulations established by the Government and the provisions applicable at each institution. The support is intended to enable students to focus more fully on their studies and personal development.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs Secretary-General’s Decree No. 428 of 2026 also sets out the obligations of KIP Kuliah recipients. Under the second operative clause, recipients are required to sign an integrity pact and a receipt acknowledging the assistance, use the funds appropriately and responsibly, and complete their studies on time.
Recipients must also report the use of the funds to the Commitment-Making Official at the Centre for Religious and Religious Education Financing, under the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
These provisions underline that the programme offers not only financial support for education but also places responsibility on recipients to manage the assistance properly and complete their studies in accordance with the applicable requirements.
