3 Students from UIN Jakarta Share Knowledge of Islamic religious Studies in South Korea

Ciputat, UIN News Online - The Center for Community Service (PPM) at UIN Jakarta approved three female students to participate in International Community Service (KKN) in Daegu, South Korea, in August 2024.

The Coordinator of KKN at UIN Jakarta, Kaula Fahmi, M.Hum., revealed that the International KKN program in South Korea focuses on Islamic religious activities. "The location is specifically centered around mosques," said Kaula Fahmi during an interview at the PPM office at UIN Jakarta on Monday (10/06/2024).

International KKN programs at UIN Jakarta vary depending on the destination country. For instance, they may focus on education in schools or religious activities such as teaching Quran recitation. It's known that International KKN programs with a religious orientation are conducted in South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong.

The three students participating in this year's International KKN in South Korea are Layyuna Arinal Haque from the International Relations program, Nadine Theophania Bong from Early Childhood Education program, and Putri Mulyani Chaniago from the International Relations program.

One of the participants in the 2024 International KKN in South Korea, Putri Mulyani Chaniago, mentioned two main programs being planned. "First, there will be a seminar on early childhood parenting, and secondly, an Islamic festival," said Putri during a WhatsApp interview on Friday (14/06/2024).

The seminar on early childhood parenting aims to educate mothers on the importance of early childhood education. Meanwhile, the Islamic festival is intended for children and will focus on teaching effective ways of da'wah, especially in countries with minority Muslim populations.

Apart from these flagship programs, Putri also highlighted other activities such as poetry recitation workshops, Quranic recitation with proper intonation (tartil) and pronunciation (tajwid), teaching basic fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and fiqh related to women. At the end of these activities, there will be competitions and art performances before the closing ceremony of the Islamic festival.

To ensure the success of the International KKN programs in South Korea, extensive preparations have been made, including deepening their knowledge of Islamic studies to be shared in South Korea. "We also need to study relevant references from credible sources before teaching," added Putri.

In addition to financial preparations, administrative tasks such as visa applications, passport arrangements, journal keeping, and proposal writing have been initiated. Putri also mentioned that the South Korea International KKN team has started discussions with senior students who participated in KKN in South Korea in previous years.

Putri hopes that the female participants of the International KKN in South Korea will uphold the good name of UIN Jakarta.
