141st Graduation: Rector of UIN Jakarta Equips Graduates with Three Core Values
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., inaugurated 765 graduates on the second day of the Open Senate Session for the 141st Bachelor's and Master's Graduation at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Sunday (06/09/2026). Out of a total of 3,154 participants in the 141st Graduation, these graduates comprised 215 from the Faculty of Theology, 416 from the Faculty of Economics and Business, and 134 from the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with the recitation of holy verses of the Qur'an and a prayer, followed by the reading of UIN Jakarta Rector's Decree Number 516 of 2026 regarding Participants, Best Graduates, and Best Thesis Authors of the 141st Graduation for the 2025/2026 Academic Year by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Karlie, S.Ag., S.H., M.A., M.H. The event was attended by university leadership, deans, heads of institutions, bureau and unit heads, professors, faculty members, the academic community, invited guests, as well as families and graduates. The Rector then inaugurated the graduates before proceeding with remarks from representatives of the graduates and alumni.
In his address, the Rector congratulated the graduates on their achievements while encouraging them to utilize their educational experiences as a foundation for facing life after graduation. The Rector also highlighted the distinct advantage of UIN Jakarta graduates who received an education integrated with scholarly approaches. According to him, the mastery of science must walk hand in hand with theology and spiritual values so that knowledge retains its direction and continues to foster humanitarian awareness.
“Future success is not determined merely by a piece of paper. Future success is determined by mentality and character,” he asserted.
Building on this premise, the Rector equipped the graduates with three core values to hold onto as they enter society. These three values are integrity, spirituality, and an orientation toward easing burdens and creating benefits for others.
“Integrity must always be etched in our minds and embedded in our hearts,” said the Rector.
The second value emphasized was spirituality. The Rector reminded them that scientific proficiency and innovation must be accompanied by spiritual values, as life is not oriented solely toward material gains. Spirituality, according to him, fosters an awareness that life is a trust that must be fulfilled with responsibility.
“Do not neglect this. Great capacity for innovation without spirituality amounts to zero,” he stressed.
As for the third value, it is making one's presence a source of ease for others. The Rector urged graduates not to stop at feeling proud of their diplomas, GPAs, gowns, or degrees, but rather to question the contributions they can offer once they return to society.
“What do you bring for the society? Maadha tahmil lil mujtama? Is it a piece of paper? Pride in a GPA? A graduation gown? Or a degree? It is not merely that. What society awaits is how we can contribute and make an impact,” he expressed.
According to the Rector, usefulness can be realized through actions that make other people's lives easier, more comfortable, peaceful, and happier. He noted that an orientation toward easing the path for others can also serve as the foundation for innovations that genuinely address societal needs.
“No matter how small our actions may be, intend them to ease the path for others,” he added.
The Rector also reminded the graduates of the sacrifices made by their parents, which formed a vital part behind their achievements. Therefore, earning a degree should not remain solely a point of personal pride, but should be carried forward through contributions that impact society.
“Ensure our presence brings comfort, tranquility, and happiness to others. That is the kind of figure everyone is waiting for,” he concluded.
Through these three values, the Rector reaffirmed that the measure of success for UIN Jakarta graduates extends beyond degrees and academic accomplishments. Integrity serves as the foundation of character, spirituality guides the application of knowledge and innovation, while usefulness represents the tangible manifestation of alumni presence in society. Armed with all three, the graduates are expected to become bachelor's and master's degree holders who possess not only professional competence, but also a meaningful impact on life.
